Default problem with my lt1

i put new bearings and rings and a cam in my 94 T/A this winter and last sunday i tried to fire it up and it wouldnt run unless i kept the gas to the floor and it would only run at 600 rpm. i have shorty headers on it with no y pipe because i havent got my y pipe yet. i got good spark and fuel pressure. it has a new rotor and cap on it. the cam says i need the computer modified or a chip but it still should run with out that, i think it would at least. does anyone know what could be wrong

You need a tune, like the cam manuf. says too. It'll run, but it'll run like **** until its tuned.

Well did you time it right? If yes then im sure it just needs a tune. is your spark ok? Theres lots of different variables here, a tune being my easy answer lol.

the cam is 220/ 230 at .50 .510 intake .510 exhaust. i did put 1.55 ehaust valves in the heads and gasket matched them and thats it. the cam was spost to be grounded 5 degrees advance and i redarded it 3 degrees.i got a computer that came out of a 95 z28 that was programed so i am going to put it in tonight and see what it does.

How did you retard it 3 degrees and why?
