Default Cars dead! Not good for the LTXShootout!!!

I had the car out tonight and after whooping a Benz S600 V12 TT AMG all souped up 3 times, he turned off and I continued straight, then bam backfire just driving normal and the car died no funny noises or anything(besides the backfire)??? Sounded very healthy b4 that and it cranks over fine but wont fire. Car ended up getting towed home.
What do you think happened?
Think i Fired the brand new GM opti?

Anyways I hope to get it figured out soon and cheap or else I wont be making the shootout

timing chain? Does it backfire through the intake when its turning over?

Hopefully thats worse case. Mine did the same thing before and my opti "shaft" that contects it to the cam broke in 2. A new opti and it was good as new.

Tell me about it! Happy as hell one second, dead on the street the next.
Oh and after letting it sit it would fire once but thats it, not nearly enough to start it.
It backfired though the exhaust, not the intake and I didnt hear anything that would make me think the timing chain broke or the motor blew. I actually thought about the chain but didnt hear anything up front

No funny noises at all, ran great..... the backfire.......dead.... no funny noises coasting in gear when i noticed it died, no funny noise with clutch in and coasted a good 100yrds into a parking lot. Cranks over and would occasionally fire once, but not even close to starting
Checked the wires best i could in the parking lot and all looked good and away from the headers and all were plugged in on engine, coil and opti.

agreed check all of the above. and just because you can hear the pump prime doesnt mean your getting fuel. your regulator might be screwed. i hope you can eliminate what it isnt real soon man!

Maybe the rotor came apart? Just a guess, and I hope it's nothing to serious.

Mine did the same thing at an NMCA race last year, 1000' mark a massive back fire and my tach went to 0. I let off pushed in the clutch and noticed it was still running, very rough. Got it to the pits and shut it off. It never restarted, had fuel psi, acted like there was no spark. I got it home and warranty'd the opti at the dealership and it fired right up. I noticed on installing the new opti that I had the vent hoses backwards, I don't know if that contributed or not. On the pass it broke I missed 3rd and the motor spun a little pask 7K, I chalked it up to an over rev and improper venting! FWIW GM parts have a 12 month 12K mile warranty! Good luck

Mine went on the third of three back to back passes! If you still have your reciept or your onfo is in the computer at the dealer you got it from and your within 12 months or 12K miles they "should" take care of you. I worked at the dealer I got mine at for 3 years, so I don't know if it was a take care of our own type of thing. I would advise against telling them it "broke while racing" though!

Dang man, maybe you should get that 35x thrown in real quick. It does seem like an ignition problem. Get that opti swapped out real quick. It only takes a few hours to do. Hopefully it's just something simple.

Its a New GM opti from the top end build, but Speedinc got it so I dont have a receipt not sure if they do or how that works? Ill find out tomorrow

LOL! Josh I bet its the opti. Thats exactly what it seems like anyways. Im no pro mechanic but it sure didnt seem like anything else. They must not like 3 back to back passes at high revs.
