Default T-56 bites the dust

Ok guys. We were out at the mexico strip if you know what i mean. I had just got done working over a procharged fox body mustang hatch.

First time by 5 cars, second time by 3.

Anyway, i commence racing my buddies truck just for the heck of it. I missed 4th on that race so im like no big deal. Turn back around to go to the start and it ground hard into 3rd and wouldnt take it. Tried 4th and it just spit it out too.

Finally got it in those 2 by pushing the shifter hard and holding it.

Long story short though, now it wont take 3rd or 4th. Just spits the shifter back out and grinds

Bent shift fork?

Wheres a good place to talk to about some parts for this thing? Rpm, liberty, g force?

Also, is this a job a fairly advanced mechanic can do? Or is it a crazy alien that should only be touched by an experienced tranny shop?

Damn, I feel ya. My Syncro is shot in 4th..3rd is smooth as butter, 4th doesn't want to happen quite often.

I've got a good T56 from my Trans Am I'd part with. Pm me if you're interested. It's got 16k miles on it and shifts flawlessly.

The stock 3-4 keys are more than likely are your problem and are all chewed up.

Looks like a good list.

I was reading a write up and he said that a company sells 1 special puller you need, other wise a 4" and 6" will do it.

He actually combined the 4 and 6 puller to get it done as well, without buying any special ones. Probably what I'll try to do.

That's a good list. I always see that one part you are talking about there called CF Blocker Rings..they are the little pieces that go on the inside of the Synchro Steel Ring.

Get new Seals aswell.

This is a kit that I'm purchasing in the future when I do my build..it's the Level 2 Kit on top of the page..

Thanks a lot Merv.

I'll probably do something similar to that kit except reuse the stock synchros. They're pricey compared to everything else and my tranny only has 40K on it with some expensive *** synth fluid in it so I think they should be good. As long as there's no visible damage that is.

That's the kit I bought. Looks like quality parts. I'll get them in the car if I ever get my LT1 out of the garage....
