If you know anybody that works at a GM dealership, it is cheaper to let them get it for you with their discount, rather than going through anywhere ealse.

I work for gm and also checked before I bought mine. Summit sells them cheaper than I could get them. Its because they buy them in large volume and can give better discounts. Check the classifieds here for a few day. I got mine from a guy on here brand new unopened in the box for $350.

The real question is why do you want a hotcam?

Because 550 dollars for a cam swap is about all I can afford. If I were to get a cam from lloyd elliott and all the other parts to go with it itd run me 850

Lets not go bashing the hot cam here, its a great budget upgrade, which is exactly what he wants.

Just one suggestion for the OP, keep it under 6k rpm untill you swap out the springs for better, they are close to coil bind and the heavy LT1 valves will wear them out quick.

I wouldn't run them past 6k in an LT1, now in an LT4 with the lighter valves you'd probabaly be ok. The springs aren't the best, but with that cam on stock heads you won't be leaving a lot on the table by shifting at 6k.

IMO you can build a better "kit" than the hot cam kit for $600 but if you're uncomfortable picking parts, stick to something that already worked out.

You can find a used cc503, 306 etc... for around 150 bucks. get the crane 10308-1 springs. buy a nice set of non S/A rockers. hardend pushrods. and guideplates. you can get all the stuff in great condition used. save yourself alot of money and have a better cam kit than the hotcam kit. peice it together. you might spend alittle more, however the end result will be worth it.

Like he said there are some 10308-1 springs in the used section I believe and also some rocker arms or you could do some proforms from jegs for cheap not the best but they will work trickflow pushrods. You can piece together a good kit but you also need to budget for things like gaskets and a tune also thats another 200 to 300 dollars or more if you go to a shop instead of a mailorder tune.

I put together my Hotcam kit (minus LT4 heads) for about $350-$400 including the 1.6 comps, gaskets, new valve seals, and new timing chain. I chose the cam because it was cheap, easy on the valvetrain, and my wife drives the car. Now if it were my car I would have picked a different cam. The car is plenty fast though.
Later on I want to get another 4th Gen F-body, lighten it, and go with the
LE2 setup.

I put a comp 503 in my car for under $600.

The cam was $249 from Summit:

http://store.summitracing.com/partde...8&autoview=sku

I ran stock LT4 springs (good to .525" lift), from pace performance: $36

http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...D&ProdID=24732

retainers: $16

http://paceperformance.com/index.asp...&ProdID=248701

I got locks at my local speedshop for $15 iirc
I got a cam replacement gasket kit from my local machine shop. It was a Victor kit and included oil pan, timing cover, water pump, and the 2 timing cover seals. You reuse the valve cover gaskets. The kit was $20 iirc.

The springs are not optimal for that cam but they worked fine for me. You CANNOT put 1.6 rockers on your car with that cam and those springs though. You could/should go ahead and get beehives but they will run you close to $200, and they are the recommended spring for that camshaft. In a budget go with the LT4 springs.

I'm curious to know...does anyone here have a graph of a hot-cam vs. a similar A.I. or LE1 cam? Or any track times from an LT1 "cam-only" car to compare from all three? Wanna see solid proof that the cams from A.I. and LE actually give a significant performance edge over the old hot-cam. Not trying to stir the pot, just would like to see actual results as opposed to here-say.
