LOL...Some guy tries to tell his Cam Only Bolt ons LT1 made 414/586 on the rollers! So i'm in the parking lot the other day putting on my soccer gear for practice (mens league) and this guy pulls up to my car (the SS), I'm next to it, and asks if it is mine.
I said yeah.....he says I should come to the races tonite at spot X.(ficticious name).
I said no thanks, been there once and the only people I raced were my friends which I could do anytime. Most of the cars are slow I said.
He says, yeah, well I was hoping to race you, cause the cars are slow and I beat everybody. LOL!!!!!!!!!!
I said, why, what are you driving? he says - 1995 Pontiac Firebird Formula LT1
Then I said: "what makes you think your car can run with mine? What did you do to it?"
He says : "Well I dynoed it and it put down 414rwhp and 586 rwtq."
Me: "you running Spray?"
Him: "No"
Me: "Heads and Cam?"
Him: "Just a cam and headers and stuff"
Me: " Sorry bro, but your chain got yanked. Lemme guess, its and auto tranny with a loose converter?"
Him: "Yeah how did u know?"
Me: "Cause your dyno #'s reflect that. What cam is in it?"
Him: " Not sure but I ordered it from Summit."
Me: "Well, if you want, you should go online and post up the graph and the mods, cause that would probably be an ALL TIME cam only LT1 record you know. I have a Heads+Cam LT1 that doesn't put out that much."
Him: "Well, thats what it said, so I'm not sure."
WOW.
I cannot believe the guy was serious.
I felt like a huge dick for just telling him he was wrong, and nothing he could say would convince me otherwise, BUT....sometimes someone's gotta do it.

Reads like he's trying to learn how to hustle, but doesn't have the capability of claiming realistic numbers, or he's telling the truth. I'm sure there are many dynos out there that can spit out those numbers for a cam only car.

I have a feeling that if I bought a highly modded car it would have to be well known and documented on here, or I would make them put out the $30-45 to run it up on a dyno in front of me before I bought it.
For instance, when I bought the_Merv's motor he had a dyno chart to show me and video of his car running at the track, sold!!!! It has performed very nicely for 15k miles already.

Some people just dont get it. There is a guy here with a Truck, saw an ad for a power chip for $25.00 Basically its a resistor for the IAT mod, anyway the ad says it will give 120 more horsepower and like 50lbs of torque, he bought it thinking he will have that much. Then he went and bought a PCM from a larger truck model because it made more horsepower and torque. He thinks just by switching the pcm he will have the advertised ratings of this vehicle then he is going to put this "Chip" and have that Extra power...

Lol.. good story.
Here's a question though.. how many of you guys have been on a Dyno where some of the Sensors wouldn't communicate right and the numbers were off the charts?
I did a pull one time where it was like 425hp/something billion torque(I don't remember exactly but it was outrageous) My ****'s got thrusters..
..lol

Damn I love Kona. In all the times I've been there, I've only seen a few V8 powered cars that I would consider fast. Maybe a handful of LS1 corvettes and f-bodies. Isn't the only real track in the islands on Oahu?
Every time I go to that Old Kona Airport Beach I think that it would be such a nice place to go race (if it was repaved smooth).
PS: That LT1 sounds like a 300rw on motor and 150 shot car.

I had a mechanic tell me that his '93 TA makes 340 rwhp with an intake, catback, and shorty headers.
It gets better...
I tell him, "Wow, with my CC503 cam, LT headers, & TB, I should make about the same HP as you do."
Then he says, "You wasted you money on that cam, these cars don't need a cam, all you have to do is burn a chip and it makes your cam bigger."
I was like WTF?!
I just stopped talking cars after that and nodded my head. Then I left.
It gets better...

Still got you beat, Had a guy that was building a Pontiac 455, He saw an ad where they used a Edelbrock manifold of course with a fully built motor and it made 500 HP. He said man you guys waste your money on cams, headders and stuff and all I need to do is put this manifold on and I will have 500 Horsepower.

He said man you guys waste your money on cams, headders and stuff and all I need to do is put this manifold on and I will have 500 Horsepower.
