Default Header Question

I am looking into buying pacesetter header and was wondering if the extra $200 or so for the coating is worth it?

If you have the money, get it. The paint on the painted headers will burn off in about 30 mins of running them and they will rust much sooner.

up to preference and where you live, coated looks much better and will last longer but as long as you live in an area where salt roads and the such aren't as much an issue then a painted header can do the job as well but not as pretty

Pacesetter products are known to rot out quickly unless it's a ceramic coated product. A few import buddies of mine had the catbacks rot out in about 2 years. Regular aluminized steel lasts longer than that around here.

You could also consider some cheap EBay stainless headers.

I would go with the Ceramic Coating...Like slp said, the paint burns off fast as he** and will look really crappy really fast...the ceramic coat will stay good for AGES. Pacesetter is a descent brand too, but keep in mind clearance issues and SP Wires. If you add headers I suggest changing to an OTVC SP Wire setup...you avoin burning plug wires...also you might have to either put a cushion between your header and floorboard, OR bang your floorboard to give the header clerance so you dont have the header knocking on your floor every 2 seconds...easier to do before you do the install.

just to add, that's not just for pacesetters with the clerance issues...its for most LT's. I have Dynatech LT's and I got the OTVC mod AND banged my floorboard for clearance. No issues now.

Thanks for the replies. I am not too worried about salt since this will not be an everyday car, only a warm weather weekend car. Where is a good place to buy headers at a reasonable price?

I have the painted pacesetters. Yes, the paint will burn off in about a half hour and they don't look as good as the pacesetter coated. However both the coated and non coated pacesetter will rust over time. Neither will last forever if you drive it alot.

cheap??? haha, I would worry more about quality than cheap. As far as where to get em? Take your pick bro, they are everywhere. I had luck from a fellow LS1Tech junkie who was selling a set. I know you can get some from LMPerformance, as well as ALOT of the sponsors you see to the right

not looking for cheap, just reasonable, and unfortunately my budget is not endless. I am not planning on a competition car, just a weekend car to mess around with. Just want to know if some of the big names are worth the extra cash they charge.

pacesetter is a descent price, just use the links to the right and price match...you may find some on the parts for sale section of LS1Tech, OR possibly even ebay....you never know...just look around

Hey:

Ebay stainless x2 or how about LPPs 321 polished stainless steel, as they should be ready soon. Stainless tend to be better for durabilty than coated, IMHO.

Wait it out for the LPP headers. The new batch is expected any time and they are made of high qaulity stainless steel that will NEVER rust plus you can get a Y pipe too. The first batch had some clearance issues on some cars but the new ones are supposed to fit much better. I had some on my 94 TA and only had to move the steering column just a bit. Just be patient, they will be more than worth it. The price tag is supposed to be around $600 with Y pipe and worth every penny to not have to worry about rust.

I picked up a set of pacesetters for my old camaro. Havent really looked around lately but at the time Byunspeed had the best price on them, not to mention if you find better (after shipping) they will match the price. Only down side with them I have noticed is they rarely return emails, and I have never once called and gotten ahold of someone.
