Default Building power curve at WOT with A/F tuning

Getting ready to take my 396 LT1 to the dyno to tune it. I am already aware of how to change the A/F tables. My question is, my mail order tune has my A/F running 11.2 across the entire rpm range in PE mode. What A/F range should I shoot for as a base line to speed the tuning process up? Should I shoot for 12.0 or 12.5 and work each rpm range up and down from there? What are you guys doing to simplify the tuning process? Is there any easy way to start building a noticable power curve? Thanks guys.

Mine makes the most power at 12.8 @ WOT. Rarely do LT1's want to run leaner than 13.2 from what I have seen.

the MO tune I had according to the wideband was running at 13.7!!!!!! Stock Bolt on motor. never any retard or anything. Per advise I received, 12.8-13.2 was good to shoot for on the street. Needless to say after getting it down there, car pulls a hell of a lot better at WOT. No track data to back it up, as I haven't been back to the track in 2yrs.

If it runs best at 13.7 and does not knock, lock it in and go. You will get more MPG's too. My last tune further hurt my MPG's since mine likes it more rich.

What Matt was saying is that he made the mistake or using a popular tuner that does not actually do good work. He found the problem and corrected it before it did harm. Others are not so fortunate.

Lean WOT AFR will only help fuel economy if you spend a lot of time at WOT.

Yeah sorry I meant to a little clearer. While it didn't knock that high, it certainly felt it was falling on it's face at that high of AFR, and once I tuned it down to around 13.00 if pulls like a SOB now at WOT.

I'm not knocking the tuner, but if he's pulling that much fuel at WOT, he maybe should rethink that. Or the Zeitronix wideband is wrong, but I feel where I have it, is good enough

If the car feels faster after giving it 7 tenths of a point more fuel then it was too lean.

I am pretty sure I know what tuner he was using and have sold individual pistons to a couple guys who had them crack because he tunes too lean with too much timing.
