Default Is it a myth or fact

that in the LTX camaros GM put forged cranks on m6's and cast cranks in the A4's I've been told this by many people I've spoke to they claim its more than a possability because "banging gears would be "rough" on the crank causing torsional twist and possibly "crack" the crank so they (GM) might have put forged crank on the manual lt's as a factory production"...

not to sure either I thought car manufacturers stop doing stuff like this in the early 70's I though all 350's had a stock/ factory cast crank...

any one with more insight on this?

All the cranks were cast not forged. Simple as that.

Do not hesitate to ask questions I can't stress that enough and before you go and do something make sure you have plenty of replies for help and that they are authentic. Some guys on here laugh...but not everyone is a car genius and there was a time those guys didn't know answers to things they do now. But again do not be afraid to ask I'm glad you did for several reasons...1. You don't want to sound like an idiot for stating something that is wrong ( I've done that before, lol) and secondly you don't want to risk ruining your car because you were too proud to ask simple questions. There was a post here a while back about this kid who posted on a mustang forum...He was asking about oil changing and that it was taking a while to drain and he couldn't get all of it out. Some guy who thought he was funny told him to flush it with a garden hose. So before the kid waited for real replies he did and viola...locked up motor. Even if these guys give you crap about a "dumb" question, ask anyway.

^^^ i definitely agree ive done some pretty dumb things and cost myslef some money by not asking a simple question (way more than once)

i really dont think thats a dumb question, i went to post high school automotive school believe me ive heard dumb car questions

and yeah most ppl will try to be funny about replies and think their some kind of god but youll have that on the net

i did laugh about the garden hose though lol

My friend took auto mechanics in highschool and one kid in his class told the teacher he wanted to put the thing in his car that made the wooshing noise(turbo).

"technicians" certified or not are a BAD place to expect good info from. They are parts swappers few have any real understanding of how things works.

Yes the stock cranks are cast BUT they are stronger than the cheap aftermarket cast people like to buy. A lot of guys have doubled stock output and more without ever a crank problem. So it is a really good cast crank.

wasn't really trying to say they were, just making a smart *** observation on the "matter-of-fact" mentality that many people posting on the internet have simply because they know how to operate a search engine and substitute that for retaining actual knowledge and understanding of things.

True, that is what this forum if for, to ask questions, but you will always get that occasional smart *** that will throw his immature answer in. There are a lot of people that come on here and give advise that have no clue what in the hell they are talking about. Example, a viewer asked about plug type for nitrous and some idiot told him in a very technical way how nitrous causes increase cylinder pressure ect and sounded good so far, then he said that in order to burn the nitrous that you need to run the hottest plug but just to close the gap a little more than N/A. Now was he deliberately trying to blow this guys motor or was he just an complete idiot!!! I say the later...When I give advise it is what I have personally done, not what I have heard nor what I have read, but people will still chime in and call B.S. why? because they have no clue of what they are doing...

Yea, I have taught the Summit guys quite a few things standing at the parts counter. A few were sales managers. We still drove to Summit a few times each weekend to get projects done. I love the place, but just as with any job, there are a few that make the rest look bad. Although lots of the guys in the warehouse typically have badass rides. A few H/C LT1's and a few quick LS1's. Best showroom in the USA.
