I'd imagine it would be like having 4.56's with a '94-'97 T56.

He has a '93 T56, the gears inside are different, by how much, IDK. But from what I have read, it would be like having taller gears with a later model T56. If I were you I'd definitely go with 4.10's. That's what I am going to do.

With the different gearing in the 93 trannies 3.73's would be a very good gear...but if you want to get every last little bit out of it go with 4.10's. Motive gears are good for strength and they tend to make less noise.

lol, I wasnt necessarily saying that is the gear he needs to go with...just the ones I personally am going with. Plus I wont lie, I am definately NOT a tranny guy. I just know what worked in my 97 Z28, and want it in my 97 SS lol. I have no idea what the gears are in the trannies.......haha

I haven't had any other gearsets. But, my Motive 3.90's have a little whine to them. I mainly only notice it on the highway though.

Hmm...well I guess they're exceptions to every rule. I've had the GM/motive gears and they've been dead quiet. I've heard more good things about them than any other brand. Who set up your gears? Maybe I'm used to pretty much the best, Jason at TDP in Ft. Worth TX is about the best there is and most of the people I know with the motive gears have gone through him.

Better difference how? On the street or track? If for the track then you need to find out where your power peak is along with your neighborhood trap speed and select a gear that will take you to your power peak at the end of the traps.
Here's something to help out:

It was just a local shop that I take my car to for about everything. They did have a few problems with the install though. It had to be redone. When I had them do it the first time, it whined like crazy, and they weren't happy with it before it was even driven. So, they didn't charge me and told me they were going to tear into it again in a couple days. They tore into it, and it's alright now. But, still not perfect. Because, I've heard the same thing from many others, that the Motive gears are really quiet. I think a buddy and I are going to tear the cover off and take a look at it sometime soon, and make sure everythings alright in there. He's done gear installs before, but I felt more comfortable about taking it to a shop instead of having someone do it in their garage. Maybe I should've had him do it anyways.

Ah I see. I know that once gears start whining there's no stopping it but if they didn't even drive the car before they decide to go back in then that shouldn't be an issue. It's not a bad thing to have someone do a gear install in a garage you just have to make sure everything around you is clean and that you're clean too. Just like putting a shortblock together in the garage. Just have to be careful. Just make sure your exhaust is loud so you can't hear the whine

There was 2 transmissions in 93, so you have to take that into account too.

Haha. Yeah, it's loud enough to drown most of it out. Plus, if I've got the windows down, t-tops out, and some music playing, I don't even notice the whine. I'm thinking if I put some thicker gear oil in it, it may help quiet it down a little too, hopefully.

Stop and think about the double overdrive. That goes a LONG ways towards taming 4.10s. Use the calculator SS RRR posted.

2000rpm cruise is better for the engine than a 1500rpm. Lugging an engine is NOT a good thing.
