Default LS1 TB on a LT1...what would stop you?

Ok in all seriousness I have a nice little project brewing that involves replacing the stock style intake manifold with a new manifold that could be easily adapted with LS1 TB.

So...there is the IAC, the TPS, Throttle Cables and coolant passages.

The IAC and TPS have identical pigtails on the LS1 and the LT1 (they physically with connect to one another). I believe the TPS voltage outputs are the same (0-5v) on the TPS but what about the IAC????

The LS1 throttle cable is approximately 4-6 inches longer (because its mounted on the opposite side as the LT1) so an LS1 throttle cable will probably have to be swapped in.

And a coolant bypass would eliminate any routing coolant issues....

Besides tuning changes for the tranny shifts and the modified air flow...would there being anything stopping someone from doing this???

Your question, what would stop you???
1. The LT1 has not been proven to be deficient to require the effort to mod a LS1 TB. So the big question is, WHY?
2. Tb's in general dont unleash magic power like heads and cams etc.
3. Seems like a waste of time considering TB's dont use the same rules as carbs WRT to bores etc.

Maybe you can prove me wrong.

Its not about switching to an LS1 style to power (flow) increases...its about the difficultly of adapting an a lt1 style tb to this particular style intake. Basically i could bolt on an LS1 style version fabricating an adapter for LT1 style tb. It would much easier just to switch to LS style if possible.

When you put it in that context, its a bit more understandable.

you can make a plate thatll bolt to the intake man. in the stock location, with a 3" hole in the center then have 4 threaded holes for the LS throttlebody. youll have your own TB spacer for free, and have the LS throttlebody.

the edelbrock pro-flo intake uses a similar setup that the op is talking about....Going to a big single blade as opposed to a dual blade setup. If I'm right I think it may work out just fine. Maybe hook the tb up to the car with power and hooked to a scanner and press the pedal and see if the values seen by the computer are the same. I guess more trial and error style than anybody knowing for sure. If they plug into the connectors without issue I don't see you having an issue.

Not saying that was worth the effort but one big mistake I see is using the 94+ intake, the LS TB is MUCH taller and then he used an intake with the fuel rail trough.

I would like to see a picture head on with the blades open and see how blocked it is.

Far as the LT1/LS1 sensor compatibility, guys have made the LS1 computer run the LT1 once you give it cam position. That suggests to me the sensors are compatible.

lol...Right now I'm working with the manufacture and everything is still in the design phase....if anything REAL develops I'll let everyone know.

Thanks for the replies...looks like it would work if there is hood clearance...I guess the next thing to do is try to hook up the tb from my ls1 and to verify the output is the same.
