Default Key stuck in cylinder... wtf

Hey, My key got stuck in the "ON" position in the cylinder lol. I had to run and disconnect the battery to shut the car off. I just took the steering column out with the key still in it, and it will not budge. I tried finessing it but to no avail. Anyone know how to remove the lock cylinder? Or is there another option?

Wiggle your shifter - the lockout solenoid thinks you're not in park.

Sounds like the ignition switch is bad. Try tapping on the end of the key with a light hammer. It happened to me when I had my 86 Z28. If this is the case you are going to have to replace the ignition switch.

Switch? Wouldn't it be the actually lock cylinder though if it's holding the key in place even with the column out of the car?

Ignition switch probably just needs to be adjusted a little bit. loosen up those 2 tiny screws on it and make some adjustments

as 350 h.o. stated tap on the end of the key lightly with a hammer as you do this try and turn the key back to the off position with a set of pliers. i have found this to work in the past, it just may take a few tries and some patience.

I got the key out.. I need to know how to get to the actual cylinder to replace it. Does the wheel have to come off?

what you need to do is removed the airbag, steering wheel and a use a special tool to compress the spring behind a metal plate. then you can remove the snap rings that everything together. once you remove the plate and spring you have to remove the t-25 torx screw. the the cylinder will come out. as long as you have the key in the switch you can manualy push the rod in the steering column to start the car. or you can remove the switch and move it with a screw driver. if its jammed then you can get both parts separately.

yes the airbag and steering wheel have to come off. is you ignition key worn? i have had the key itself be the problem and not the lock cylinder itself.

you can buy that tool at most parts stores or rent it if they have that option. its a shame that you went though all that trouble to get the column out the car because you dont have to do that. a lock cylinder will cost around $50 bucks and then you have to take the master key to get cut at the dealer with the resistor. the switch is also around that price range.

Nope, it was removed when I installed the B&M shifter a while back. My friend suggested it was that too, and it would make perfect sense.

Anyway, I destroyed my column out of frustration so I'm just going to get another column from this f-body junkyard for $100 with a new key. VATS is bypassed already so I don't really have to worry about a key with resistor. Ughh...
