Default 383 questions

Hey guys my short block is needing rebuilding. I got a few quotes at machine shops. The ones around here quoted my around 650-700 dollars. Anyways I have found a 383 short block that is completely built for $1500. Anyways I was wondering if my top end off my old engine would work. Its a lt4 hot cam kit with stock 561 heads. Would this be enough to power a 383 or would porting be required. I have herd that the hotcam is a little small so I might change that to like a cc503. Here is a link to the engine.

What do you guys think?

a hot cam and a cc503 is to small for a 383. Porting is never "required" however instead of shitting and getting it will just get. My 383 is stock headed, however the cam is far larger than them two.

OP, what's your budget? With a stroker motor, good flowing heads to feed those extra cubes is essential for making power. Invest in good heads, they will pay you dividends. Also very important is a wise cam selection. If I were you I'd get a custom cam to match the heads you choose. Bolt on all of the supporting mods and enjoy.

Well looking ant the budget its not enough at the moment. So I am going to go with rebuilding the 350 and then work on the suspension and a better radio.
