Default Lt1 restarts on it on

I'm new to the site. I have a 1997 furmula. It has been losing power on top end. But my biggest problem is when I turn the car off and open the door it will restart on it's on for a second then turn back off and stay off. I know it is something to do with the ignition system. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had this problem and what they did to fix it. Thanks

Sounds like someone rigged your ignition switch ground to the same ground as the door switch. You will have to trace the wires. Start with the grounds.

Thanks for the fast reply I will start chasing down grounds in the morning and see what I can find. The guy I bought the car from replaced the engine in his garage and all the wiring is a little iffy looking to me. Thanks

When you say it "restarts" does the engine just run a little more or does the starter actually engage??

Also it does not do it every time i turn the car off I would say one time out of five maybe. The starter wires are run on there own to the side post section of my battery and the alternator and and the other electronics are run the the top post part or my battery. Some time the car stats strong first click of the key and sometime it starts hard like maybe turning the key twice with a two or 3 secounds of the starter tuning. Had battery and alternator tested and they were both fine.

That is called "dieseling" or "run on". IMO it is more likely you have a bad injector carboning things up and leaking. The carbon causes enough detonation to keep the engine running without spark if it is given a little fuel by the leaky injector.

My best guess. Never actually seen it happen on a multi port injected engine. Had it happen on a carburated one or two over the years

Any way to test the injectors would I be able to just clean the ones I have or would I need to replace them? Thanks

By wiring do you overall or is there a certain part of the wiring you are asking about? Other then the starter being hooked up by itself on the side post while the rest of the wiring is hooked up to the top post it look pretty much stock except for one box i can't figure out what it is about maybe 4 in by 4in it's just sitting on top of my air filter box not bolted anywhere. I asked a buddy that used to work in a performance shop and he told me he never seen anything like that on an f-body car. Thanks

the wires going to my maf has black tape on them and the maf is thoughing a code even thouhg i checked and retaped the wires I pulled the maf and cleaned it with pure alcohol and q-tip still have the code i think the is because former owner descreened it. Also the ground coming off the top post of my battery is grounded to the body along with two other grounds that didn't look factory to me. Thanks
