Idle issue with my 96 LT1 Firebird Formula
The problem with my LT1 is when it idles. The car won't do it when its cold, at least not at first, but after it warms up just a little bit. It does it the worst when I am driving in traffic and the car starts to warm up, you can feel the car idling really rough almost like it wants to die, sort of like its got a misfire. When I go to drive again after the car is having this idling problem, the car sounds like it misses a little bit until I get to higher RPM's then it goes away. The car has no problem what-so-ever when I am driving steadily or when I slow down or speed up, the big problem is with the idling and only when the car is getting warm. I have an OBD II reader and the car does throw some codes.
I get these codes:
P0140 No activity detected O2 sensor (Bank 1 sensor 2)
P0336 Crankshaft position sensor Range/Performance

First I would suspect either your MAF or your o2 sensors. You say the problem happens when the car warms up, that's usually a sign of an open loop closed loop problem. You can try to disconnect the o2 sensors and disconnect the MAF sensor and see if the car drives better.
I would be a little concerned abou the P0336...that can be sign of a bad opti...it was for me.

Sounds like your IAC valve is having trouble. Take your throttle body off then remove your IAC assembly. Clean the IAC passages in your throttle body with some brake clean and clean the part of your IAC (the pintle) that operates inside the throttle body.
Could be something with those codes but I suspect an IAC problem first. Sensor 2 is just a rear tattle tale sensor and doesn't affect how the car operates and the CPS is probly setting codes because of the erratic idle.

I appreciate the input guys but I found the problem. The one plug wire had a small crack in it and it was arching to the one header pipe. So, I am glad its an easy and cheap fix

lol, I appreciate it guys. However, I still think I have got to replace on 02 sensor cause I get that 02 code coming up still, but that will be an easy fix. I changed the plug wires on her, and she runs like a new car, I love it! Lol, plug wires should be an easy job on a car, but its not exactly a stroll in the park with an LT1.
