Default Shorty's Vs. Longtubes

what are the differences between shorty headers and longtubes? obviously length. What about performance? reliability?
I can get a set of used edelbrock shortys for $125. Is this a good deal?

me personally with the amount of work thats involved i would ONLY put in long tubes i know you gain more horse power using long tubes im not sure the exact #s but a majority of the people on here with headers are running long tubes im running pacesetter coated long tubes

longtubes > shorties in performance

longtubes require o2 extensions, and aftermarket y-pipe where some shorties reuse stock y-pipe

lt's won't pass some states emissions

dont waste ur money on shortys, there is very little performance gain between it and the stock exhaust manifolds, not worth it. get pacesetter LTs, i guess they r only about $300

I agree and think the OP gets the point. But if not, let me put it this way, not even if the Edelbrock shorties were free should you put them on your car. I know, because I've owned a set, way back when, before there were LTs on the market.

Yep I agree with zrated, LT's all the way. I had bbk shorties, they suck compared to the LT's!!

not true on LT1s, they have a significant gain over the stockers. however, they arent near longtube gains

There are inherent advantages to both long tubes and shorties. But like Elliot said, anything is better than stock.

Oh come on admit it, they are bad. Don't worry I did the same thing, but I ran the shorties on the 383=fail lol. That is most likely why I saw significant gains switching to LT's.

I'm running SLP dual cat shorties. I put them on to stay legal. I knew long tubes were going to make more power, that is a given. It all depends on what you want. Mine are 50 state and Fed legal. Not going to be able to say that with long tubes. Plus they do make power, at least the SLP's do.

If I were doing it now, I would do long tubes.

if you're planning on running anything but longtubes, just take your manifolds off and run open exhaust ports
