Default Sluggish car???? 355 rebuild

Ok so I have 355 LT1 with all forged internals and with a cc306. It has now maybe 25 miles on it. Just curious to how something like this should act on the road with a 3200 vig stall convertor. At the moment it has open headers o I was thinking maybethis was the cause but it seems like if I'm strolling around town or going up any type of imbackment that it seems sluggish like it want's me to mash the gas or something. It just seems odd! Is my **** pretty much set up to always wanting to go fast or for me to romp on it. It seems like if I take it easy in 1st and 2nd gear it's fine but 3rd or 4th it's sluggish, crying for me to mash the pedal????? Just thought I would get some inputs on this! Drove it today and I was like what the hell because it is a fresh motor and I really don't want to beat on it YET!!!!

Sounds like the slip from the stall converter has got you thinking something's wrong. That and the fact your running a 306 on stock heads. Once you get into the upper rpm's it should pull pretty good though.

On stock cubes the 306 wants ported heads, a lot of gear, and a lot of rpm.

It sacrifices low end and is not a stock cube cam to just stroll around town in. 3.73s will help.

So it's all in my head, I was thinking that a bit, As soon as I hit the gas to have it down shift it's like holy **** where has this power been hiding, lol! I mean it will go for sure! When you want to take it easy it seems like it doesn't like it! I already have 3:73 gears in it as well! I guess I'll just have to get on it where every I go right!!!

Open headers aren't helping the low end either!

open headers will feel like a dog down low, I know my car felt worlds apart with my 383 build after I got an exhaust fabbed up

also getting the tranny tables dialed in like lockup, kickdown, part throttle shifting, etc will definately make it alot more liveable

Well it looks like I will be going into my magnaflow x-pipe into some dynomax race bullets into some turndowns. Hopefully this will help out some! How does this whole tranny thing work out!, How do I get the tranny tables dialed in or what now, Not sure what your talking about! Thanks steve

well for those things a street tune is gonna be what you're looking at, it's where a tuner modifies the pcm tables for drivability related items, by actually crusing down the road with you and taking a log of the car under normal driving conditions (I.E. not WOT) I'm sure Ion gave you a decent setup for those things but it's hardly to get it 100% the way you want it without driving with the tuner and consulting on what you're looking for

first things first though take care of the exhaust and then go from there

Roger that. I'm looking to do the exhaust ASAP! How do you think my setup would be? Hooker supr comp into a magnaflow x-pipe then running back into some dynomax race bullets and then dumped right before the axle. It has to be better than open headers right, lol? I figure it would help a bit with the back pressure issue I believe is my problem and then drown out some of the noise. I know it's going to be loud for sure but not open header loud!

It's not going to be as loud as the open headers but it's still going to be pretty loud with that setup. Should sound mean though!
