Default Comp XFI 280 Dowel pin length problem

So I have a Comp XFI280 cam that im about to put into my new shortblock. My problem is that the Dowel pin is much shorter than the one on my old cam, the new one doesnt even stick all the way through the timing gear, let alone into the opti. How do i go about fixing this guys? i need this up and running ASAP!

Pin is pressed in

On my 280XFI I had to push it in......so try pulling it out.

^^make sure to pull it all the way out so you can see exactly how long it is. you dont wanna pull it out just far enough only to find out it fell off later and ruined your motor

Also, if pulled out too far, it'll kill the Opti. The length of the pin differs depending on the year of the LT1.

The pin on the stock cam I just removed from my son's 96 LT1 extends .625". Other years may be different.

Oops, made a typo on pin length, it's .625 NOT .0625 Sorry 'bout that.

I'm lazy I'd grab it with my vice and pull on the cam.

If the cam isn't already in the motor you can knock it out from the back side with a punch.

just in case anyone else runs into this problem, i pulled it out with an old drill chuck. It not even close to long enough to do that job at all so i had a new one made at a local machine shop, problem solved.

Was it new, or did a previous owner file it down?

Mine was too long and I had to tap it in..

IIRC it would have come with 2 pins, 1 short and the other long

sounds like you have it handled though
