Default Purolator oil filter changed?

Well I told my Mom to go get PL20049, Advanced Auto Parts is saying the part number has changed? She brought home filter PL15313. My gripe with this is the filter is now a good inch, inch and a half shorter? WTF? Curious what Purolator Pureone filters you are running out there if you are running the taller one? If my Mom's car has the oil cooler no big deal as the filter sits in a decent spot you get your hands on it, but looking at the next oil change for my car, well good luck if you have no oil cooler, the 20049 was already a pain in the *** to get a good grip on.

Do you all think it hurts anything that the filter got shorter? Anyone else seeing this in your local parts stores?

Take it back to the store, and look at the book yourself - the only way you'll know for sure it's right. The unfortunate reality of today is it's nearly impossible to find intelligent life in most of the chain auto parts stores.

Call them and just tell them that you look for oil filter. And ask for the part number, to see it match the number that u had. BTW advance auto having special on 5 quart maxlife ( GOOD OILS ) and pureONE filter for 17.99, that a dam good deal. Remember get the over side filter from pureone. Just cross over part number of M1302 ( mobil 1 long filter ).

I don't know if I am more disturbed by the lack of knowledge in parts stores or the fact that you sent your mom to get auto parts

My wife runs for me all the time, but then it's a bit easier to train the wife unit than it is the mom unit.

Advance Auto Parts has a couple filters listed for a 94 LT1

PL 15313 (Pureone)
L15313 (Premium plus)
PL20049 (Pureone; Superseded to PL15313; Limited to existing inventory)
L20049 (Premium plus; Superseded to L15313; Limited to existing inventory)

pretty much explains the scenario you're experiencing.

^Thanks. That is what they told her, that 15313 was replacing 20049. Just making sure as you know these part stores. Did a oil change for my friends 96 GMC 1500 the other day, guess what when they got the filter parts guy didn't ask if it was 4 wheel drive or not. So I get handed this tiny filter and start laughing. Look it up myself, yeah they handed them a filter for a 4 wheel drive. Yep so they made the filter shorter for some reason, that's retarded. Guess I'll cross check for the tall filter as recommended above.

Hey its her car, I'm not going to be living under her roof forever. She has to figure this stuff out at some point in life.

i work there unfortunately...but i do understand about the part numbers. it's not always the person working there that is stupid, but the way the constantly change part numbers and inventory that is stupid! if you want a bigger filter this is what i have done... look it up for a 95 chevy truck 4x2 5.7...its p/n PL34631. it is a much bigger filter than either the PL20049 and PL15313.
