Default Car wont start WTF is p1371?

Car is throwing code: p1371 Ignition Control (IC) Module 4x Reference too few pulses. WTF is this, and has anyone seen it before? Car just cranks, dont even think about starting. The car has been in the yard for almost a week, and we had horrible torrential downpours yesterday. I think I may have finally been screwed by the opti. To make matters worse, the car has sunk like 2 inches into the grass because of the rain yesterday so this is a great place for it to die!

I believe it's for the Ignition Control Module.

Found this on another site:

"The 4X reference pulse comes from the opti, so if the trouble code is coming up, it may mean either the opti isn't generating the pulse reliably for some reason, or the wiring to the PCM is faulty.

It is a common problem for optis to get oil in them when the rear seal starts leaking. If oil gets on the optical wheel, it might interfere with its ability to generate either the 360X or the 4X signal."

It's not so bad. After ~3-4 hours and a new set of wires, plugs, and a new opti...maybe even a new coil to boot you'll have a smile on your face again.
You should also do the ICM cooling mod.
Don't forget to thread lock the rotor screws of your new opti.

^ Its probably either wiring, or the opti. Plugs and wires are 300 miles old. And thats a pretty big hole in my wallet to have a smile on my face again.

go with delco or delphi...if you want to go big you could go dynaspark...either way you look at it its still at least 280 out ofyour pocket..did you have your icm checked to make sure it was good?? hoow many miles are on your car?

The ecu is not reading any, or few 4x pulses. This code to my understanding has no corelation to the icm. The car had just under 75k on the clock.

I had this code on my car and also had other multiple problems though. First it was a bad Opti then the ICM. I kept getting bad parts from Checkers and it was really frustrating trying to solve my problem.. During that time I also found that having a really, really good to the ICM is needed. I was ready to beat the **** out of my car with all the problems it was giving me. Good luck with your troubleshooting and definitely use the guys on here to help ya, it'll save you alot of time and needless thinking!
