Default Just shipped my heads off to Advanced Induction

Well I finally decided to get off my fat *** and tear into my Camaro. I took the springs and valves out, cleaned the **** out of the heads and intake and shipped them off. I'm going with the 200 cc H/C package. The intake is getting the basic street port. Im going to have them send me the rockers, lifters, pushrods etc..... My issues are with the bottom end of this motor. Since I have it out I will be rebuilding it. I do have the idea of running a small shot of Nitrous on this car sometime in the future. So I'm wondering what type of crank, rods and pistons I should go with. I already have contacted the machine shop to let them know what I plan on doing. They are going to set it all up for me and balance and blueprint the motor. I am considering builiding it to a 383. I've been told to stay away from Eagle rotating assemblies. And I've heard Scat is not too bad for the money. But I will say money is not a huge issue. I've been saving for a long time to do this so I'll spend what it takes to make things right. I hate doing things twice to save a hundred bucks. Any help would be appreciated. I just can't wait to get these heads back and see how pretty they are.

Like you said, Scat makes some pretty decent products - I'd look into their lightweight crank.

My .02: build a badass 355 to put the topend on.

If you *really* have the budget to build a stroker motor RIGHT, then go for it. But most dont even when they say they do.

A well though out, purpose built 355 with a good topend, cam, and some RPMs will put most of the "stroker motors" out there on the trailer, because theyre built like **** and give the ltx platform a bad name.

I'd use stock rods and crank, all ARP hardware (rod bolts, main studs, head bolts, etc), forged pistons of your choosing (use this as an opportunity to bump up SCR), and ditch the lt1 pcm so you can spin it up. Either go lsx pcm or fast xfi or. bs3 if you have the money.

Jmho though. There are a million ways to go with this. Talk to the guys at AI since youre already dealing w them. Tell them your budget and goals and they can put you together a realistic and reliable combo, rotating assembly and all..

I agree with talking to Ai. They can set you up with what you need or adivse on what to stay away from.

I would do stock crank with aftermarket rods and quality pistons.

Talk to AI either a full rotating assembly or thier 355 kit that reuses the stock crank. The stock crank is pretty strong only reason to replace it is to go with a longer stroke. I would reuse it before buying an aftermarket 3.48 strok crank because it is stronger than the cheap ones and all indications seem to be it is as strong as the under $600 cheap aftermarket forged stuff.

This is what I would do too, and plan on doing when the time comes.

If you have the time watch ebay, I was going to do a 355 until I found a Callies Racemaster 3.75 I piece RMS crank for 500 bucks never used. If I was going to do a 355 tho I would still use aftermarket 6 inch rods and smaller skirt pistons, having the crank balanced is going to cost a few buck as well if you have it profile balanced for the new assembly. Another reason I went with a stroker is so I didn't have to spin it to the moon. I would rather run a smaller duration camshaft and spin it to 6500 but that is just me.

I'd buy a Compstar (Callies) 4340 crank, rods and Mahle forged pistons and build a 383.

That is exactly what those of us saying talk to AI again are saying. The rotating assemblies they sell are primarily compstar/mahle.

was going to use a stock crank with 6" forged scat rods and forged mahle flat tops on my A.I. build but im now selling my car. If you do plan on going that route i can give you a deal on those rods/pistons if interested. either way tho scat, mahle, compstar are all quality products
