Default Car wont start.. Here are the symptoms.

When I turn the key in accessory, the fuel pump primes and all the normal gauge cluster lights turn on.

No security light turns on (VATS is disabled anyway)

Starter will not engage. It's dead quiet when I turn the key over. Battery is good (even tried jump starting the car - still no starter engaging). All I hear is a small electrical switch *click* under the dashboard area. Checked all fuses, everything is fine. Something tells me ignition switch.. Any input?

Get a buddy, GF etc. Turn the headlights on, and then try to start it. If the headlights dim but it doesn't crank, then you have a starter problem. If not, could be the ignition switch or the starter solenoid.

Hmm.. the *clicking* I hear is from this little black box in the dash (close to drivers side). Is that the TDR or TDM?

no that's your ignition switch, which sends power to the TDR which sends the power to the starter relay.

The ignition switch is the piece on the steering column though..

I checked in this location, and there is nothing there. (I know it's on the other side of the metal, facing the outside of the car). Nothing is there. I can't even locate the yellow and purple wires. Hopefully Rob (Shbox) sees this, that would be a great relief..

That's what I thought.. Then I called Advanced Auto Parts and they have a starter relay for a 1993 Z28 in stock.. 0_o

I'm pretty lost.. I mean, the plastic screws were on the visible side, but when I felt around, there was nothing there - as if someone removed the TDR or something. I do see two relays though - but neither have both a purple and yellow wire going to them \=

Were all 4 of them there? It's not directly behind that spot where that little plastic piece pops out, just a hair lower. Pop it out and see what you find..maybe it's hiding on you.

If you do manage to get them out, get a test light and pull the Relays. Have someone hold the Key in START, and see if you get one of the pins that lights up. Then turn the Key to the RUN and back to START and if it flashed then that is the one.

Only two of the plastic screws were there, but nothing attached on the other side. Here are the two relays I found in that vicinity..

A large one:

and a smaller one:

I would check the ignition switch as well, that ticking you hear MAY be spark arching off of it

If it were the ignition switch, wouldn't the fuel pump not turn on? Mine primes and everything..

It would still turn the Fuel Pump on.. that is controlled by the PCM. Power gets sent to the PCM and it sends the signal to that Relay.

So the way I see it so far, it could be the ignition switch, or TDR (which I cannot find lol)

Your problem was diagnosed here - it's the starter solenoid. I had the exact same symptoms Saturday in my LT1.

This is the same ones on the 93's but IIRC the wires are not the same color. But what you showed in your hand is the same thing that is attached to the inside of my 93 hawk.

I did that and the lights did not dim a significant amount. Just the same amount anything else could of caused it, such as an interior light or something.
