I might be picking up a 93 trans am on a trade but im wondering as for tuning software what would I use and who?
How compicated would it be to tune these obd1 cars?
What else should be known for this year car such as tuning, performance, mods, NO MAF either???
thanks

You can't tune a 93 with anything. The 93 was the last year for the "computer chips." If you want to be able to tune it without bruning new chips everytime, you should look into EFI CONNECTION. You can run you 93 with a ls1 computer.

burning a new chip is easy it only takes literally a minute. i used ion for my tuner but every tuner will tell you to get the most out of it you must have it dyno tuned.

so the only way to actually tune the car is a dynotune, ION @ madz28 or just get rid of it and run a ls1 computer with efi connection

another thing would is the person who might want to give up his car had put in rebuilt trans with a shift kit and a 4.10 gear that was originally equipped with a 2.73 gear, so it shifts like ****.. He also had the converter deleted with a y pipe and has other parts laying around like a cam kit.

So how can these all be tuned???
how about nitrous can i run this on there with that computer or not safely?

You can get a mail order tune for a 93. don't have to get a dyno tune. Its just recommended. if you can get the car for a great price go for it. 93 cars are the fastest LT1 anyways..

Moates.net as a product called an APU1 tuner, it's realtime for EPROM cars. I have one, it works like a charm.

And as far as the shifting issue goes, it may just be from the gears and it never got tuned to accommodate them. That's a pretty drastic change in gears to be running a stock speed/gear shift program.

the 93's are great starts. It's SD so everyone swears it's a better FI system.....then the fuel rail crossover is in the back of the intake instead of the front where it is said to be a slight restriction. As for the tuning issue, you can get new chips made, or you can look into tuning it your self. Any of the mail order guys should be able to get you one, and most of the shops with dynos can do it as well. I say build it and go to town.

i used pcmforless for my 98. there are also several other mail order shops.
i recently talked to them about my 93. they can do it. it'll be good, just not as dead on as if it were dyno tuned.
