Default Alternator question

Would an alternator problem cause check gauges light to come on?

Yes. It can make the needles go crazy, doing up and down sweeps.

Bad alternators can cause all sorts of weird problems. In the mid 70's I was working on a Dodge pickup. Nothing fancy, plain 1/2 ton with a 318. When hooked to an Sun engine analyzer, it showed 12 cylinders. Replaced the alternator, and all was well.
