Default B-Body 8.5" in F-body?

Anyone put a B-body (impala, caprice, etc) 8.5" rear in an F-body? What is required for it to work? What about welding our axle tubes on the pumpkin?

B-body's don't use torque arms, they use a 4 link suspension IIRC. There are other differences, but I don't remember them off the top of my head.

NO this is not a fail thread you can use that rear end or any other rear that is stronger than the current factory installed crap!
click link http://www.g-forcesuspension.com/pag...og/i.php/81/55

So in a way, I can buy a built 8.8 and then buy that conversion kit and I should be set (other than some welding for the spring perches and UCA brackets)?

personally i feel that set up is much better for us simply due to the fact you can use a 9",12bolt,10bolt etc as long as you get the length correct or can make the difference with wheel offset.
*side note*
8.8 rear from an explorer comes with a locker,3.55-4.10 gears ample supply in the bone yard...no matter how you slice it you will not have to pay the crazy money for aftermarket rearends.

For sure.. I estimated a grand tops (by buying a used 8.8 rear, that ladder bar setup from g-force and doing the work/welding yourself). Even cheaper if I buy from the junkyard (it's like $160 for a complete rear end at a junkyard by me). Hmm..

I cant view that gforce link for some reason but is it a kit they sell to adapt other rear ends to our cars?

I have an 8.5 sitting on the side of my house thats just collecting rain water.

Ladder bars will prevent you from being allowed to run in street classes that require a stock-style tq arm suspension .

If its just a street car though and you don't care about classes then its cool

fabrication time, you will most likely lose the abs function with the older 8.5 but using the b-body rear it can be kept. the 8.8 can retain abs aswell but have to research the wiring to adapt.

if you look at the pics from the OP you will see what g-force resembles very close...

class racing i would suspect would be an issue and it was a thought of mine but i personally do not care, its my car and there are many other ways for me to go and enjoy myself..

Well, I just found a diamond in the rough. A foxbody is being parted out on Craigslist (due the the kid got hit in the front pretty bad) so I am more than likely picking up the rear end this week for $100 It has 3.73's already in it.

Thanks!

..but with my luck I'll call g-force tomorrow or sometime after I buy the rear end and I find out they went out of business or don't make the product anymore haha ::knocks on wood:: We'll see. Worst case I fab some up like the other guy did, but I really don't want to get that involved. No time due to school

A friend of mine has an 8.5" Rear out of a Camaro.. it came out of a Torque Arm chassis Car, I think it was from an early Gen III.
