4.10's or 3.73's for my A4
OK so i know everyone is thinking this is just another gears thread like all the others but i need some more opinions on this...
I went to the track the other weekend for the first time with the new cam setup and alot of other crap i've done in the past year and was very un happy with my times. I think the main problem i've got here is my stock 2.73 gears are killing me, well i know they are but need to figure out what gears to go with now...
Car was going though the traps in SECOND gear at around 6000-6200 rpm at around 98 MPH with my 2.73 gear and a 26 tall et street. 1/4 mile btw...
Now i do not care about street manners, its not my DD and it doesn't bother me with high rpms and all that on the street so i need to know what RPM and MPH i would be going through the traps with 3.73's, 3.90's or 4.10's and some opinions on what people think would net me the best possibe ET's and trap speed's.
Thanks so much!

There are calculators online that you can plug in your tranny ratios, rear gear, tire size, and rpms to dial in your combo to the rpm range your engine makes the most power in.

Well according to the calculator on f-body.org is says in 3rd gear with 4.10's at a speed of say 100mph i would be at 5300-5400 rpm compared to the 2.73 at about 100mph i would be at around 5700rpm in 2nd gear which is preety accurate as to what it trapped last time out...
I think the 4.10 should work good getting me up into the good powerband in 3rd gear and the 4.10's would get me out of the hole much harder...
any opinions on that?

And i'm not against movin up to a 27 or 28 tall tire depending on what my trap speed could end up being... I'm thinkin i should be around 110 or so mph with my set up running to its full potential...

If your wanting a strip car, I'd say the 4.10's will meet your goals bro. Nice to see some more Iowa guys too
I know I loved the jump from my 3.23's to 3.73's.. 2.73's to 4.10's... you will SCREAM out of the hole!
Wish I had the extra money around for mods.. right now im focusing on college and all my "car" money is accumulating in stocks

Ya the car is without a doubt a street car but i'm setting it up for the track. I want a full interior car with my full stereo system sub and all in the 11's... I can handle with making the street manners a little worse as its not my DD, its my strip/street toy lol

Not unless he drives around in third or runs a 22" tire lol.
I wonder how many people that think 4.10's are so bad realize that at 70 mph they only give about 200 more rpms than a 3.73 gear.

Was just going to say... my car at 85mph with my 3.73's and 3600 stall is at 3000rpms... I doubt a 4.10 gear would be much worse...
Honestly we don't buy these cars for gas mileage either, I like my tires spinning faster

Go with the 4.10s. If it's too much on the highway, step up to a taller tire. I'd stick with the 26" tires for at least a few hits.
I ran 4.10s in my '95 Roadmaster, and it was my DD, with a lot of highway time. Ran 27" tires, and it handled it just fine. You will definitely appreciate the 4.10s.

I run 4.10's and dd, i love it. I run stock wheels right now with 245/50/16 and at 80 its around 3100 ish. Pulls like a **** out of the hole and is a beast up to the top of third. Can only hit about 110 right now cause I don't wanna shift to od full throttle. If you step up to a 28" tire and 4.10's it will be almost the same as 3.73's and a 26". At least that what I hear. I also went from 2.73's to 4.10's.
