Default Drip Rail/Molding Removal?

Ok, I'll post this up here as I have had no responses from the paint/body forum. (SORRY MODS PLEASE DON'T DELETE)

Does anyone know a way to remove and replace the black drip rail/molding on a firebird (camaro may be the same) hardtop. The year is 95' and I'm trying to replace it with a new on but don't wanna screw up the paint just need to get some advise before I start.

May have to get a piece of window stripping and cut it to length if you can't find it. I don't see why any of the LS1 stuff will be different. Maybe the stealership still has it.

Nah, I have a brand new one (NOS) actually from the stealership for $24 - couldn't believe it myself. What I need to know is how to get the old one out? Is it held in by the weather stripping mount to the roof or any ideas? It's just a C or L shaped rail that tucks up close to the roof.

Look at the new one to see if it looks like there are any holes where a screw would hold it in. More than likely it just slips over and stays there, or is might have a little glue holding it on there.

Sorry I couldn't be more help

No screws, it looks as if it uses a locking channel to hold it to the car, but I can't figure out if it is locked to the weather shripping mount or where else?

Is the C channel or grove glued under the windshield? In other words is it clamped to the edge of the windshield and then glued down with the windshield?

I believe it clamps then glued. I don't remember seeing any glue on the underside. I take it you have insurance on your car...my windshield cost me $50 to get replaced after insurance. Just an idea

Na, the windshield is perfect so I don't need to replace it. The rail is just a little messed up on the end and I've thought about replacing it for a long time. Kinda bummed now as it looks like I'm not going to be able to get it out let alone back in due to the windshield.

You got lucky.. I had Glass Coverage and the ******* won't let me replace it cause there was no accident. Even when I said that is was vandalized they still wanted a police report.

I guess I'll have to take care of it when I get really bored.

Really? That sucks. I had a bunch of small rock chips on mine, nothing serious and they still swapped it for me. I thought for sure they were going to tell me what they told you.

I had a good hit in it from a rock and it cracked in a small spot, then I managed to get it to crack fully across after a while of messin around.
