Default A few LT1 Questions befor i buy a 95 383 for $1500....

There is a local guy selling a 95 Camaro with a 383 stroker.... The body is in great condition and so is the interior... it has 83,000 miles and only 3000 miles on the 383...

THe problem is the car just died on him while he was driving it.... no warning or anything it just shut off and wont start. well he checked for spark and nothing.

He replaced the coil (and it has power), opti spark (he thinks the optispark he bought was bad also) HE ISN"T GETTING SPARK AT ALL.

I want to buy the car buy I am afraid i would have more money into it than its worth. I could buy it and hope for a bad fuse or something simple but it's more than likely more seriuos.

What do you guys think? Could the opti he bought at nappa also be bad... they wont take a return either.

I dont know crap about lt1's but it seems it could be:

*in the wiring harness
*Crank Sensor
*Cap and Rotor
*ICM
*Fuses
*Coil

So do you guys think its worth $1500? How Much is all this crap to replace? I am just looking to use it as a DD....

Thanks,

Blaine

You can get a coil for $20 and change it out in like 30 minutes. The opti and cap/rotor are located behind the waterpump on the front of the motor and are a pain to replace. I would say to run a compression check on the motor, and make sure it turns over fine. If everything seems fine, I'd buy it. It's more than $1500 to build that motor if it's built right. Get a mechanic to look it over before you invest your money. My .02

Depends if you want to work on it or not, it could be something simple and you can have a car worth much much more than you paid for it. Even if the engine is shot, the rest of the car is worth more than 1500.

I'd love a car like that.

3000 miles on the 383, i would think it would be something semi simple at most.

Of course that is assuming it was built correctly.

Though it makes you wonder dude is selling it for super cheap, maybe he knows something but is not saying?

any info on the 383? you might be able to sell the parts from it for really good prices if it has good parts

Well got him down to $1200, and he assures there isn't anything wrong with the motor. said it was running fine and just shut off while driving and wouldn't start again.

The motor has a balanced eagle rotating assembly. The Opti, coil, opti wire harness, plug wires, and icm I can get new for $300 (if i had to replace everything)

What about VATS? Could it cause the car to just die while driving it and to not restart again?

I had a very similar issue. I replaced the ignition control module. And it fixed it. But it was expensive. Almost 80 bucks I think.

Sounds like the ICM to me, use SHbox to troubleshoot the ignition fail.

X2! Take a good look at the underbody and make sure it's not rotting out, then buy the bastard if it's fine. Sounds like a hell of a deal if it's not a pile of junk and the engine wasn't hacked together.

do #1 Fuel injector noid test, that will narrow it down between ICM and opti / wiring.

If the #1 fuel injector is lighting up your problem is ICM, if it is not getting signal opti / wiring / pcm.
