Default dipstick tube

I sanded the paint off of the majority of the tube (leaving enough at the end bump for a seal) and oiled it. Now, it slides in with ease until it hits the small amount of remaining paint. I cant get it to budge for the life of me. Should i sand the rest of it off and use an o-ring to create a seal?? Thanks

as Soxx said, apply high heat slicone only on the end of the tube where it seats in the block and remember that the tube bracket will be bolted to the block so it will never slip out, the silicone is only to ensure a proper seal nothing more

It just butts up against it.

I hate taking out the dipstick tube. After taking it in and out a few times I got the feel to get it in easy everytime. (well atleast on my car) try being gentle and lightly wiggle it in lol. I know thats tough to do bcz after the first few mins of trying you wanna bent the F#$%ing thing over your knee and throw it in the garbage. But ya lube er up and gently slide it in, just like your well you know lol.

lmao...that just made my day...especially after the problems I had putting mine in. I sanded up to the "bump" down to bare metal, applied some oil and wiggled it back in. I didn't apply any silicone. No leaks so far...

From the sounds of everyone elses replies it sounds like the "bump" is supposed to go past the lip and into the block? Am i wrong here? any more confirmation on whether its supposed the bump is supposed to go in the block or just butt up against the lip?

Push tube into block. Align bracket with bolt hole on block. Bolt tube in place.

Done.

Make sure you get the RTV designed for oil. Some are better than others against oil degradation and heat. The block does not get awfully hot, so no need for extremes.

Helpfull hint. If your having trouble gettin the damn bolt back in, slot the hole in the dip stick so you can start the bolt then just slide the dip stick behind it and tighten it down.
