Default Ram Air>Cold Air

I just installed my new ram air setup on my LT1. I was running the K&N FIPK for close to 2 years. The difference was noticable. Throttle response was much quicker and it pulled harder. As for the setup, it seals perfectly with my Trufiber hood. If you can find a good deal on this setup go with it, you wont regret it. Here is a pic

Pretty sure that GM no longer makes the OEM airbox assembly...not too sure on other vendors making similar setups, although Suncoast used to.

RA for the win!!!! I dont think any other setup can compete. They may flow enough but it is not cold or ram at any speed and the direct path rules!!!. Its the one part I prefer to leave stock on my ride!!

Modding rules!!
I bought a CAI B4 but on my 97 Formula.
Cant see any need to upgrade on the 96 WS6. Car went 13.32@103 with DRs and a B&B catback. Not saying much for the catback because with LE2 heads the car picked up an amazing 17rwhp with a cut out and the same cat back.

Yours isnt ram at any speed either! Now a reverse cowl will get you a "ram air" effect.

Yes it supplies lots of cold air, but the WS6 airbox although its called Ram Air it doesnt provide a true ram air effect. At least thats what I heard on the internet rofl!!

Why not? My cold air is custom, it only has an extremely gradual 90 degree bend, is 3.5" diameter, and stays colder than aftermarket CAIs

I think the real gains the OP is "feeling" is due to the more stright flow of the ram air and not so much the actual ram air effect. I have already proven (to myself) in another post where I datalogged vaccum loss from the throttle body to the filter. I tested a couple of CAI, deletion of the MAF as well as the elbow.

I determined that the elbow was the biggest culprit for dropping KPA which results in some loss of power. The MAF dropped nothing and I determined that the K&N FIPK outflowed my old Arizona and Marine CAI.

Again, because the OP has a stright shot to the TB, and no elbow or turns to redirect or slow the air, I think those are the prime reasons for the gains. Once you reach a much higher MPH, the ram air effect will of course kick in.

thats exactly why i felt the gains, because of the direct path
