Valve springs for light mods
I've gotten rid of one of my projects, the 95 Camaro, now I have time to tune up my daily driver. I call it lightly moded, it is a WS-6, with all that gear that comes with it and a cat back exhaust, I'm getting some Bosch design 4 injectors from www.fuelinjectorconnection.com and I wanted to switch out the valve springs also. I have a set of CC magnum 1.6 rockers, (roller tips) and i'm having trouble pick out the correct valve spring. What heigth do i need? How much pressure? Dual or single? I was looking at CC beehive, based on the recomendation from the sticky, but i found there was some "bad batch" of beehives?
little help should get me on my way.

OK, hows this? I had some heads re-done (no port work) for a different motor I'm going to sell or store as a back up, 0 miles on that heads and motor. These heads were set up from the machine shop for a cc503 with 1.5s. The thing is I don't know how great or what brand these are, the reciept says ZZ4 springs, and the machine shop says they are good for .525 lift or so. I know on paper they will work, but it comes down to unknown brand or name brand. springs i already paid for, or betters springs i have to pay for?
I'm leaning towards using the ones i have but unsure of ZZ4 springs?

I recommend that you sell the roller tip and go with a full roller rocker. They are worth it. If you can, find the Crane 10308 valve spring kit. It includes everything you need and is a proven combo. I have ran the 10308 kit (and now run the PAC beehives on my 383) and had good results.

Our goals are different, i want a smooth running 300RWHP car to drive everyday. not a 400+RWHP car.
Does anyone have more specifics of what springs to go with? I think the ZZ4s(which i have) are the samething as the LT4 springs kit.

ZZ4's are LT4 springs IIRC, so they will work with stock retainers and with a 1.6 rocker on stock cam.
However, you may say you won't do a cam now, but you will change your mind even if you want just a little one down the road. I say upgrade now and do it once if you can with Crane doubles.
However, the Crane doubles will not work with roller tip SA rockers, the retainer hits the alignment tabs.

If keeping the stock cam a set of Bullet VS 574 springs will work fine. They will even work with a Hot cama nd 1.6 rockers if you wanted. At the 1.780 installed ht of a factory LT1, you would have 115 lbs of seat pressure and 340 lbs open. these are $70 shipped thru Bullet Racing Cams (662-893-8022).
The Bullet VS 2700 is a REAL nice single spring and has 140 lbs @ 1.780 and 360 lbs open pressure. These will work with antghing from a Hot Cam up to the 226/230 .565/.565 111 LSa cam mentioned on my site. These are $130 shipped from Bullet.
Both of these will work with stock retainers, locks, loctors, etc. Just slap em on and go. They also work with Self Aligning rockers.

I was thinking of going with patriot gold spring kit, for a good price, it has everything and leave lots of room to grow later. But now I think Loyd's suggestion of Bullet VS 2700's sounds good too. Would the Golds be too much? maybe the 2700s fit my setup better...great i thought i had it with the golds now I'm in the middle again.

With a stock cam or very mild cam (GM 845, CC 305, CC 503, etc,) the Bullet VS 2700's will work great and save some $$$.
If you plan of getting a larger cam or just have the $$$ and wanna do the Patriot Gold Extremes, they are an AWESOME set up. You will have to get a NON Self Aligning rocker for them to work though.

yep, they work with stock LT1/LT4 retainers. Only upgrade you might consider would be a set of hardened 7 degree machined locks (Comp 648-16 or similar) instead of the cheep stamped ones.
Probably never have a problem either way but the machined locks are a better part.
