I'm not runnnig a Windage Tray in my LS Engine.. I don't know how well that will work in a LT1 though, the Crank sits a little lower than mine does.

You can notch it, dent it, use washers to space it lower, etc.

Tray installed on an 383 LT1 with 6 inch Compstar rods and 3.75 Compstar crank.

Require clearance for rods and dip stick

milodon makes a bolt kit to allow adjustment of the windage tray, that's what I used along with a little "massaging"

buy a miloden or canton oil pan, that already has the windage tray affixed to the pan..

**** WINDAGE TRAYS!!! my motor lasted a little longer cause i didnt run my windage tray when my oil pump took a **** the oil was still sloshing up on the crank and did fine for me to get it home. i fully believe if i was running a windage tray i wouldve trashed my motor.

I'm lovin that screen..kinda defeats the purpose in a way..maybe it baffles it enough to work..lol

I've always wondered about windage issues..

how does an aftermarket windage tray compare to the stock with a crank scraper? crankscraper+ aftermarket tray?

I use the Milodon Diamond Stripper windage tray as well but I didn't have to clearance mine to clear my H beam rods. Also the screen only flows one way, in other words it allows the oil to drain back to the pan but not let the oild flow from the pan to the rotating assembly. I also use a rear pan baffle and a block mounted crank scraper.

A little longer? Yeah I think most of us will stick with out non frothy oil in our pans that way we do not suck up air into the oil pump.

im not saying they are bad things. im just saying my motor stayed alive cause instead of massaging the tray or adding washer i said **** it and the oil was able to be sloshed around when my pump took a **** on me. please im not saying that windage trays or useless or anything. everything in and on every single motor has a purpose and the closer you leave it to stock (IMO) the longer it will last. i was just giving you insight on my experience with the windage tray issue

Use washers to space it down, then use a short nyloc (stock tray) What kind of rods are you using?

Not sure how much clearance you need, however I have read of those bending the stock windage tray, or if it is quite a bit of distance then shim it with washers. If you don't have one you should put a mechanical gauge on your engine. That will give you the most accurate pressure readings especially during hard acceleration. I found my electric gauge would reach a certain psi and then stop no matter how much more RPM was applied. After putting a mechanical gauge on I discovered my pressure was dropping dramatically to around 20psi during hard acceleration which is when i discovered I had a windage problem.

I honestly can't believe what I am reading, but give it time. The evolution of thought will constitute the evil they have become and should never ever ever be used.

It's really sad that people are not running windage trays and expect their motors to last.

On a side note the windage tray built into the canton pan was worthless on my car. I had to pull it out and put in a real windage tray off the main studs.

Milodon makes longer main studs that allow you to keep your stock windage tray. #81148 (you need 3)
