Thumbs down Aftermarket oil pressure senders suck!

I knew I should have gotten an OEM like every sensor I replaced in my engine.

I used to have a little over 20psi scolding hot idle in the middle of summer with shitty oil and a stock pressure oil pump.

After replacing the sending unit which seemed to give false readying because the needle kept going up and down a little, I made the mistake of getting some brand off Summit, which is also acting the same way at hot idle.

I also just installed a standard volume high pressure pump, and I have fresh 20w50 Castrol in the engine. Cold idle is great, about 50-60psi. Hot idle? Just below the 20psi line :S

Of course when driving, its at 40psi, goes more at WOT.

I had the same issue as when I replaced mine I started getting really weird OP readings and they were erratic and sometimes scary low. Freaked me out as I thought I had a problem with my motor, but chawked it up to a bad OP sender and picked up a new one from Advanced and the new one worked flawlessly and my OP came back up to normal. Just get one from your local store and be done with it.

Hey:

I don't remember seeing an Advance Auto when I was in Bahrain, just do a NAPA one, thru internet/mail order if you can't get an OEM, they are as good or better than stock GM supposedly.

What is the matter with that? Lots of people would love to have 20 psi at hot idle. I don't see anything to complain about.

Yes, I know that while I'm out of the red, I'm safe.

However, the needle wandering on its own only means I cannot rely on the sending units accuracy. I guess having an accurate reading is always better. But having a reading is also better than none lol

Is it a mechanincal gauge? If so I just put a T fitting inbetween the block and the oil pressure sensor, and with the other port on the T thats where I ran my oil line for my mechanical oil pressure gauge.

It's electrical. I was searching around and seen earlier lt1's had the oil pressure gauge above the oil filter. Wondering if I could put the autometer one there?

That should work. Just wondering ,if you already have the stock electric gauge why add another electric one?

I don't. The b-bodys only come with coolant temp, fuel, tach, and speedo. Sucks.
So found this pic. I'm guessing theres a plug that i have to work out then?

Ya, that should work out fine for you. I'm not sure on what degree elbow you will need as I dont know how big the autometer unit is but thats pretty easy to figure out. sounds like you've already got that part figure out anyway.

Going with a 45deg fitting. Now just going to have to use my buddie's honda size hands to get in there lol. Stupid question, but here it goes. Would I be able to take that plug out and put in the fitting without oil gushing out? Or should I just drain it first, reason being just did an oil change. Be a waste of 20 bucks or so.

Oil won't gush out unless the motor is running and under pressure as the sensor is on the top of the motor and not in the pan. Just change it and be done with it, you shouldn't see hardly a drop of oil.
