Hey guys I am having some trouble getting my oil filter back off. Anybody got any tricks. I have tired a filter wrench, and a screw driver. I have had no luck in getting this off. I have spent at least a couple of hours trying to get it off. I did put oil on the seal and all that good stuff. Any tricks or ideas?

Get a filter strap and a rachet, Or use some big adgustable pliers and kinda use them so the jaws are virticle.

usally and screw driver punch threw it and start turning, you must of put that on a little to tight.

you need a craftsman filter wrench. the one that goes on the 3/8" rachet. ive used it at least 10 times a week for the past year at my work, and have never not been able to get a filter off

I have had one stuck on so bad that I resorted to an air chisel! I wouldn't recommend it but it is a last resort thing.

my buddy on here had his filter on so tight by the time i got there to help they had shredded the whole filter housing apart. so i just cut and tore the shell off then pulled the element out. took a phillips screwdriver through one of the holes on the filter top and pryed up against the mounting pad with it. eventually got it to spin free and got it off with no damage to the pad.

Are you sure your loosening and not tightening? dont put it on soo tight next time!

Had one like that once,used a big pair of channel locks,turned it little by little till it came off.

Try a GOOD strap wrench. The whole screw driver thru the filter usually just ends up making things harder IMO.

yeah i dont know why this one is so hard to get off. I did my normal hand tight plus 1/8th turn. I have never had trouble with a filter doing it that way.

i have a three prong claw that is operated with a 3/8th inch ratchet. I have yet to have a problem getting one off when i have used it. Sounds to me like you have gorilla hands or something man!!! Don't put them on so dang tight!!! I can pull all of my filters off by hand no problem and have yet to have one leak.

The rule of thumb is to hand tighten the filter with as much pressure as you would use to pick your nose and not bleed lol. Take it easy grape ape hands...

Trust me I am not that strong. Most of the time my hand tight makes the filter leak. Thats why I put a 1/8th turn on it. I have never had a filter stick like this before. First time using a bosch filter too. Most of the time its a purolator pure one filter. I have no idea why this one is so tight. Right now its crushed and has to big holes in it. Yet it has no budged at all. This car has been nothing but trouble since February and it makes me want to set the thing on fire. Its gone a grand total of .3 miles in 10 months. And .15 of that was being towed back to the house.

So we finally got the filter off. Come to find out the guy who rebuilt my bottom end was nice enough to paint the block. The bad part was he painted the spot where the oil filter goes. So the paint stuck the the seal and sorta glued itself together. Ill post a pic up later of what it looks like now.
