Default exhaust sond normal?

So I installed pacesetter longtubes on my car and had a local muffler shop make a y pipe and about 2 feet of pipe with no muffler and cat until I do the true duals. The question is why does it sound so raspy at idle and while accelerating in the 3-4k rpm range.I wanted to know is that normal or is it running bad.It also kind of has no tone to it sounds kind of truckish to me when driving normal. When I freerev in park the raspiness smoothes out and then comes back only in idle sound? Can any of you guys that have run open y pipe off of longetube headers please give me some input on the sound.Sorry for the long post but I want my lt1 to sound mean.

any time u run open headers with a y pipe its gonna sound like crap, unbolt the y pipe i bet it sounds alot meaner with just the headers but it will probably be too loud inside, unless u have a straight up race motor, short open exhaust will sound crappy

I was about to say throw some single chambers or a glasspack on there. But it sounds like you already know that
