Default Ls1 t56 vs lt1 t56

What are the differences between the two transmissions? Will an lt1 t56 bolt up to an ls1 and vice versa?

Thanks in advance,
Rob

not a chance...well I guess you could but you have to change the input shaft, midplate, and use an LT1 bellhousing

no, different imput shaft length and spline(I thin on the spline) and different bolt pattern on the bellhouseing. I think you could change the imput shaft and put a lt1 bellhousing on it and it will work but I'm not sure.

Well damn.... I have some decisions to make now I have my car apart and decided i was going to do the ls1 conversion. While looking for a wrecked donor car i found a complete ls1 car. It is an auto. My car was originally an auto but was converted to a 6 speed. Hmmm what to do.... I would really like to keep my 6 speed.

I'm in the same boat.. Well I'm building a 408lsx with a d1 for my LT1 car. I will not lose my t56. Seems the most reasonable set up is to sell the full lt1 t56 set up and find someone with a t56 set up for sale and pick it up for them.

selling the LT1 T56 and buying a LS1 T56 is probably the easiest, but you can also swap out the input shaft and the front plate of the housing (the part of the case with the bolt holes).

Differences:
Input Shaft
Mid Plate
Bell Housing

LS Input Shaft is longer, both have the same spline counts.

Yea the parts can be interchanged, but alot of you are forgetting an important part..which is the Preload needs to be checked on the Input Shaft and Counter Shaft if you are wanting to swap the Front Plate.

The easiest way is to just sell yours and get a LS T56, or find someone that wants to trade.

My decisions are getting harder. I got to see the "donor" car for the first time today. The interior is worn, but the car runs and drives. It is a 98 nbm z28 auto with all power options and t-tops. It does have a spun bearing, but i planned to use an iron 6.0 block anyway. I just wanted the car for the harness, pcm, and accessory brackets. Now i have to figure out which car i want to use.... Both will need work. I am tempted to just put the lt1 car back together and sell it. What would you guys do?
