Lt4 to 383 swap cam options...
Hey guys new on here. I am the owner of a 1996 C/E Corvette LT4. After owning it a few months my buddy decided to sell me his LT1 383 build. The engine had been bench tested but never installed. He was building it for a large shot of spray. So I am pretty excited. Altho the engine is finished and ready to go he had suggested that I swap out the cam for something bigger. I am not sure what cam is in there, its not a daily driver but i would like something street-able still. thought I would see what you all suggest. The 383 engine specs are below:
LT1:
58mm TB
Lt4 intake manifold
AFR 195cc heads 1031
Mahle 12:1 pistons
T&D Machine Shaft Mount Rockers, LT1/LT4
H-beam rods
Scat 3.750 Crank
Thanks in advanced.

Unfortunately, the only way to tell what cam is in there is to pull the timing cover off and remove the upper timing chain gear from the cam. Comp (and loads of other cam manufacturers) usually stamp a code into the face of the cam. Most of the time, that code will tell you what cam it is.

I'd go with something like a 230*/236* duration on a 114* + 2* LSA and valve lift in the .600" range with 1.6 ratio rockers. This cam, with a decent tune, would pull hard all the way to 6500 RPMs and will still be VERY streetable.
Contact Cam Motion and STRONGLY consider their recommendation when you order a custom cam from them.
