Default LT1 people, do drag radials really make an auto faster even though their heavier?

Alright I have switched to an auto(th350) and am thinking about selling my ET Streets and getting ET Street Radials. Are the radials really faster with an auto compared to bias-ply? Because I know the radials are 11lbs heaver/tire than the bias-ply. So I'm guessing the less rolling resistance with the radials easily offsets the additional weight I will be getting with the radials?

Also am I going to be able to hook with the ET street radials with my auto? I planned on spraying off the line with a 150shot which will put my at about 550rwhp.

Tons of drag racers run bias ply et streets making lots more power than you. Are you having traction issues with them or something?

depends on track conditions really. drag radials arent as forgiving on chassis setup or crappy track prep. i plan on staying with et streets, or possibly a stiff wall et drag for the t-brake.

What are your current '60 times? Are they consistent?

I own both a set of ET street radials and ET street slicks. With my particular setup the radials work out much better for me. Before you sell what you have I would try them out and see how well they work for you.

Just to be clear, are you talking about ET Streets or slicks?

ET streets are the bias ply tires but they are not slicks, they are still DOT legal.

The MT slicks are called ET Drags.

With the m6 I would pull high 1.5s with ET Streets. Haven't used them on the auto trans yet. I'm sure they will grip fine. I just heard the ET Street radials are faster. But these radials I might buy are 11lbs heavier per tire. So didn't know how they were faster at the strip unless the radials really have that much less rolling resistance.

I definantly have the ET Streets. I thought they were pretty much slicks but with a couple lines in them. Are they not? Would my car not be faster with the ET Street Radial compared to the ET Street? Will my now auto trans not be able to grip with the Et Street radials with the power I will be pushing at the wheels?

An ET street is NOT the same as an ET drag.

Full slicks have a lot more options on tread compound and sidewall, plus true slicks measure the tread width, DOT tires measure the width of the carcass. A true slick is much wider for the same size.

i cant speak for all sizes, but the 28x12.5 et street and 28x10.5 et drag are the same tire minus the grooves... same compound. this was according to a m/t rep, and he said most of the et street line is the same way.

I run a 275/50r15 et street radial and have an auto (4L60e) with a 3200 stall. We hit 1.5 60 ft's all day long consistently in the blazer which is 4k+ lbs. all we have for traction device is stock leafsprings.

It's been my experience that m/t drag radials are more forgiving with poor track conditions. Where as the et streets and et drags are a little more forgiving with a poor suspension setup.

Last time out at the track I pulled multiple mid-1.6 60's with zero traction problems on m/t 275/50 drag radials

Damn, fully unloaded. What have you done to cut down on the lift while launching?
