Default Finally did a complete tune-up, Doh!

Finally did a complete plug change, oil & filter, Bosch O2's, and hooked up my MSD DIS-4 ignition (had to send it in for a repair). I can't believe how much nastier this thing runs with just a simple tune-up. I've had a high RPM miss above 6,000 for awhile, but most of this I attributed to the MSD DIS-4 not being hooked up. The car really by mileage does not need a tune-up or so I thought, only put about 500 miles on the car since the last change, but that was almost 5 years ago I can't believe how bad my plugs looked, even my O2's were just black as charcoal! I installed a set of NGK TR55 (.055 pre-gap, checked), Mobil 1 M1-111 shorty filter, pair of Bosch O2's, MCCC (mopar combustion chamber cleaner, including TB & intake), Mass air meter cleaner, and I re-installed the MSD DIS-4 ignition box (in conjuction with my Delteq setup).

Wow, what a difference! The car just gets it now, from a 3k roll in first the 315/30/18 BFG Drags get squirly..... The car actually pulled all the way to 6300 rpm's without a miss until the soft touch kicked in. It has not pulled past 6k without a miss in 1/2 a year or more (ever since I removed the MSD DIS-4). The car even idles much better now, it actually sounds like it has a baby LT4 hotcam even though its the stock 96 grind.

Just thought I would share my good experience with a simple LT1 tune-up. (Oh, I almost forgot, I still hate changing plugs on a LT1, but having a BMR k-member and longtubes makes the job so much simpler.)

I've been battling that same high RPM miss ever since I bought my car. Tried pretty much everything. But I don't want to get rid of the good old optispark!

You don't have too, just get a Delteq, MSD DIS4, and a GEN III dynaspark JK

What are the symptoms of your miss.......?

Just the usual high RPM random misfire... usually in between 5-6k and in 3rd gear and up.

Spiers, have you checked all the normal items, coil, plugs, wires, opti?

Killagt, I actually fed the can of MCCC through the front throttle blades of the TB.

You may want to reconsider using Bosch O2 sensors in the future. From what I can gather, they tend to suck. Most people would recommend sticking with AC/Delco O2's.

Ok, I will keep that in mind when I replace the Bosch (probably go back to AC delco's).

while the engine off or running ? you take off the intake and spray it thru the TB blade ? or thru some kind of hole on tb ? cause I cant find any vacumm hose attb for lt1 at all.

I just took the ram air box off the car (removed maf out of the way), while the engine is idling you can spray it into the TB through the crack. When the idle start to bog down a little just give it some gas to keep it running.

Check your coil... should read ~8500 ohms...

Glad you got it running good. Sometimes my car runs good, some days it feels kind of slow, but even on a good day I feel like it has never run completely right and I have a fresh motor and replaced nearly everything except the ICM (was tested). Some of you guys are lucky, I can't even put a decent cam in that passes smog, my pitiful cam barely passed.
