xfi 280 cam on stock heads?
Does this cam make good power? Or would a cc503 make better power on stock lt1? Would it make better or worse power on a 94 lt1 with longtubes, 3.73's, and intake than the cc503?

I'm running one with stock heads and it drives like stock IMO, maybe a slight hint of cam surge in really low rpms. I love it, but I haven't dynoed my car yet.
But, like old93camaro said, the 503 would probably work just as well with stock heads.

I just can't agree with this.
Describe better power...where do you want it, where do you need it. Is this a DD, race car, street/strip, etc?
Saying a XFI280 won't work is wrong . Saying the best cam for stock heads is a XE503 is a horrible generalization that is commonly made on this site.

Well maybe i should say it little better,
1. unless you plan on turning your motor to 6600 to 6800 rpms to make power this cam is for you
2. If your ready to run some good springs like patriot gold or some 918cc because anything less then this you want be able to pull more than 6100 rpms with out value float
3. you would have to run nothing less then 3.73 because you will have cam surge or a low buck under 1700 rpms
4. This cam makes power from 2500 rmps to 6800 rpms so stock heads would be a waste of cam in my opinion
5. other than this its a great mid range cam

Porting the heads would definately be a benefit with any performance cam, especially when you look at stock ports on an Lt1 head.
"XFI" 280 Hydraulic Roller Camshaft
GM 305-350ci 1987-98
Lift: .576"/.570" w/1.6 Rockers
Duration: 280°/288°
RPM Range: 2000-6000
HOPE you have a 3200-3600 stall or an M6!
Personally,i would buy it! Instal it with the springs...I would not use 1.6 rr since you will be just a bit over .600lift and you may have retainer to valve guide boss clearence issues unless you use a set of locks that will give you .050" clearence....This is NOT piston-valve clearence i am talking about, you will have plenty of that clearence so no issues there......
Save more cash and get a spare set of heads done so you can maximize that camshaft... add some spray also

If you can get the cam for a good price, go for it. I have the limiter on my car set at 6400 rpms and the cam works great, no chugging, bogging or anything. It pulls like a train 2500 on up to redline. I'm sure it will make a couple more hp above that, but I don't race the car at the track, so its a moot point for me at least. Just get a good set of springs and you should be set.
