Default " 2010 UPDATE " What oil filter on your LT1 now ?

I try to find that " one " oil filter, so I can stick with it for the life of this camaro. I did a search and find many 2007 old topic, some of the favore filter, like ac delco, its not same quality like back in 2007 any more, it encore and it junk. Remember every one use to say " FRAM SUCK " well Fram now actually made a really good oil filter like Xtended Guard ( that go 10k+ miles ) So thing have change, what your oil filter on your lt1 right now ? I start first

Taller version Napa Gold 1060 ( same as WIX 51060 ) with 10w30 Mobil 1 High Miles. Im going 10k miles oil change with this.

wix.. cant remember the #. theres a thread here some where that very technically compares all the filters and if I remember correctly only 1 filter(pure somin?) did better than wix.
also, I dont care what the oil or the filter says, I change my oil every 3k miles. oil is not a thing to cheap out on imo.

I use a NAPA Gold filter which is a wix filter. I change my oil ever 2k or so. Oil is cheap and takes no time to change it, plus I ussually drive my car pretty hard.

I remember that site, its out off date, this is first time I ever go 10k miles oil change, ofcourse I will check oil level and condition every weekent. after 3k miles I will get an oil sample and send out to the lab for checking, to see if I can extent the oil to 10k or not, but I think this oil and filter can go 5k easy. I will put in new oil filter and top off the oil.

btw I would never ever though about extend the oil change with regular dino oil, Mobil 1 High miles having full synthetic with alot add pack. Let see what black stone have to say after 3k miles, if some of you dont know what blackstone is, they are use oil analyse lab test, send in a sample of any kind of oil, engine oil, gear oil, coolant. they will test it to see what kind of metal.......water......many more. from their, they will tell you what going on with your engine, and condition of the oil, either they tell you run the same oil for many more miles then test again, or short the oil change. very usefull, I send out an sample of every car I ever own.

Sampling the oil in your car to see if you should change it or not is retarded. I could see getting it sampled to see the metal content and such in it for wear. but not for seeing if the oil is still "good" oil isnt that expense and by the time you do all that crap It would have been easier to just change it.

^^^
agreed, just change you oil, I don't care what the oil and filter says, even with that "10k" mile oil I personally wouldn't go more than 5k miles.
Just my .02

I also use the wix filters, their better quality than fram, napa gold filters are wix filters with different paint, just like their oil is re bottled valvoline
again just my .02

lol you miss understand, Im send sample to lap to see, what going on inside my engine, like coolant, metal wear, water.....how many air filter is doing.... and most of the time the lap will tell me to run a little longer and check back again.

Some time I change my oil depend on my driving, if im racing and abuse it alot, im changing it early, if im baby grandma driving im extent the oil change a bit. My oil right now is been abuse alot lately, cant wait to see what the lap have to say, I will post up the test result here. Here is blackstone lab test result on my other 97 camaro z28 A4 when I first bought it.

I fully understand why you send in oil samples, but you just mentioned to see if you could continue using to oil thats in your car. Either way seems a little overkill for your situation.

$25, if you go here and fill this out http://www.blackstone-labs.com/free-test-kits.php, they will send you a small bottle. Take some oil when you take out the drain plug. Send that bottle in when ever you feel like it. and beware some time you sign up for 1 bottle, they make mistake and send you this hehe.

i'm using ac-delco pf1218 with mobil1 5w30 synthetic.. next oil change i might swap to a wix, what ever brand i swap to, its going to be a large truck filter..

i wont use a fram, seen too many shots of collapsed frams, think the ones that are collapsing are using heavier weight oils..
