Default Serious LT1 guys... input please!

First off... motor plates! Who's running them and which ones are you running? Still using stock water pump or remote mount? Instead of putting solid mounts in from madman I'd thinking of just doing a front motor plate but DON'T want to do a midplate. I'm thinking ahead here for the burkhart front suspension setup.

Second... 2/3 piece timing cover! Who's a adapted a sbc timing cover, or modded an LT1 cover for easy cam changes/adjustments? I understand just the top of a sbc cover would have to be modded for the top three bolts, pictures would be great

A friend of mine put a front mount plate on his car and kept the water pump, elect. of course. He loved it and had no complaints at all. As for the timing cover, I have yet to see it done on a lt1

I am not running motor plates but at this point I wish I was. That may be a mod I do next year.

my car will have front an mid plates on it when done..im not running a remote water pump im just using a csr in the stock location..as for who's ill use the ones on jakesz28.com..

you could always take the stock cover cut it where it needs to be split at then at a lip to the bottom half on the inside and then you have your own 2pc cover..

jakesz28.com sells motor plates for LT1 cars, but he's banned on here. Ever try sawing a stock cover in half and then using rtv to seal it up?

Rigidity, you lose a little twist with a moveable mount, the power is better transmitted to the chasis.

The factory mounts are good for mild applications. Solid mounts are a major improvement, but in really high HP applications you can actually get some cylinder distortion due to their location.

Studderin in the drag section cut his stock timming cover in half and it seemed to work well. He used a thin bandsaw blade, to seal the cut section he used a but of rtv.
Theres more info on his build thread in the drag section.

yea that's what got me thinking about it, it's been awhile and couldn't remember where I'd seen it. I just think it'll look kind of ugly with the plugged waterpump and opti holes. I guess I'll pick up a cheapy spectre timing cover to "practice" modding for the lt1 bolt pattern.

Tony... do you know if OutlawZ is running plates? I've seen plenty of LSx setups with them but I've never seen an LT1 with them. I do like Mike's 1 piece design

I run a Madman motor and mid plate. I would highly recommend running a mid plate if you are going to a motor plate. I takes alot of stress off othe front bolts holding the waterpump on. also the mounting place is now farther forward than stock location mounts. To me it seems like a long way back to the trans mount. Again I think more stress on the bolts holding the trans to the block.

DEFINITLY RUN A ENGINE LIMITER. I found out the hard way without one. I had a heim break on my torque arm. At the drop of the trans brake button. It moved the motor back about 2 inches. carb hit the cowl. I also bent the motor plates. I now have new ones.

I bet EFI connection could be convinced to make a 2 piece LT1 cover if there was enough interest to support the idea.

you want to run a mid mount of some type.. either the old style dogear mounts, or a midplate.. if you dont you'll break your bellhousing/tranny case..

i'd use a turnbuckle or a strap on it, just for insurance..

yea it would be nice, but it'd be billet ($$$) and this thread proves there's basically no interest.

Here's what google turned up... A jesel setup might be a cheaper alternative

if you do jessel check ebay out..you can find nascar, sprint or other racers getting rid of them alot of time.

most the time you will have to get a diff bottom sprocket seeing they use cranks with big block snouts.
