Default Why are we still holding on to these dinosaurs?

For me, it's the underdog factor. Yeah, it would be easy to just pop an ls1 in and run a good number, but it is more impressive to do it with the old horse most other folks are putting out to pasture. Besides, I love the low end grunt of the lt1.

Its what I know, they seem to sound better than LS1's, and they are cheaper to find. Aint nothing better than buying a cheap beat up car, fixing it, and outrunning super expensive cars.

At my college, I know of only 3 guys who have cars faster than mine, two are mustangs and one is an LS1 trans am. My car cost a fraction of what theirs did. It goes to show that we LT1 guys know how to get a dollar out of a dime!

Don't get me wrong I've got mad love for the LTx and the F-Body in general. It seems like I see these threads pop up quite a bit about guys needing to reassure themselves about why they choose to drive these cars and hear so from others. The LTx isn't the only Dinosaur and the cheapest of the bunch now days. The LSx has become something old and of the past and can be found for "cheap" or "inexpensive" and be modded for not much more $$$ then the LTx based cars and outperform expensive cars. I agree on the other hand that yes, LT's hold some better sound over the LSx...but once you drive a built LSx you might just see why they are so popular and sought out for

Mine's green and named after Godzilla so it IS a dinosaur. It's a torque monster and I ******* love stomping LSx *** with it every chance I get. LTx-ers get a bang out of making these cars haul ***. It takes a little more patience and willingness, if not know-how to go fast with them. We take pride in making the extra effort a lot of other car owners scoff at... 'nuff said.

I bought the car that suited my purposes at the time, engine was incidental. This is the first car I ever modified, had it for about 10.5 years at this time.

Detroit just doesn't make anything else that suits me, 4dr, rwd, V8 leaves fairly limited offerings. I have thought about a change but at this point in my life 4 door is no longer a wish but a necessity. If I had the coin a CTS-V or the upcoming wagon version would be in the driveway but I am too poor for that.

Oh and it is somehow rewarding to beat up on "faster" cars at the track. Nobody expects what this pig does.
About the 45 second mark someone in the stands guesses my 60foot time at "about half an hour" not realizing he was talking to a friend of mine.

The underdog factor is huge for me, I love it! When they see my car at the track and see my numbers and I pop the hood and they notice it's an LT1 I get LOTS of questions. One of the first they ask is if it's a 383. I tell them "No, it's the stock 2-bolt main 350 short-block". That blows their mind right there. LS1's are very fast no doubt, but they are a F**KING dime a dozen everywhere you look. Totally boring to me. I would swap an old school sbc or fabricate a BBC to fit in my car before I ever go to an LS1. It takes ZERO brains to go fast in an LS1. To make anything else fast you need to understand the basics of how an engine works and pick and choose your parts accordingly.

I recently installed a h/c setup in my ls1. Being a stick car, I consider the acceleration as being violent. I am now hooked on the 121.8 mph that the car ran in bad air. I ran the lt1 a couple weeks later and it just didn't feel the same. Even though the lt1 has been a quicker time, the power ain't even close. I refuse to give up on it so I'm looking into different combinations to keep it in front of the ls1. Nothing like trying to win a race against yourself

I LOL and love how LT1 owners always claim to stomp on LS1 cars. Let's see some proof because I say 90% of this talk is bullshit and you enjoy hearing those words come out of your mouth because it makes you think you have a fast car.

LT1 based cars = high school kids who can't afford much other then this outdated shoulda coulda woulda wanna be poor design.

You're exactly right. No LT1 has EVARRRR beaten an LS1. Douche.

You sound butt-hurt. Did an LT1 rape you at some point in your life?

still have it since new, so it's a dinosaur, but it's fun. I wouldn't change my car, but I would go to a 5.3LS turbo setup if I do it again

EDIT: his other posts are a bunch of fluffy crap, so he gets one of these, too:

--It is a cheap car that can be found in good condition.
--It is easy to get cheap parts for.
--Once you understand the engine it is very reliable.
--420hp daily driver friendly, LS1/Mustang-killing power with new cam, ported heads.
--The LT1 Camaro hangs the LS1 Camaro for looks.
--It is still the good old small block Chev, the most impressive, popular V8 of all time.
--Even when it isn't faster than other cars, it SOUNDS FASTER.

Once you understand the engine, there is nothing wrong with the LT1.
