I could be wrong but leaving a hard piece of plactic in the oil pan doesnt seem to be to smart, You didnt ask but i got a GM one from GMparts direct and it was pretty cheap
Oil level sensor - 5.7 liter, 1993-97 - 5.7 liter, 1993-97
93-97 $13.60

I think mine is sitting in the bottom of the oil pan too because when I replaced it, that piece was nowhere to be found. I was told by multiple mechanics that its not going to hurt anything.

but it will always be in the back or your mind.

it'd be worth a shot at draining your oil n getting some sort of wire or probe and see if you can get lucky.

Sounds like it's time for some aftermarket Cats or LTs. I just changed my low oil sensor a few weeks ago, and I came thisclose to losing the little piece in the pan. However, to get the sensor in I did have to remove the Cat on my 96, which I was replacing anyway that day.

Good luck.

It is too big to come out through the oil drain plug and to try and snake with a piece of wire through the hole for the low oil sensor is kind of hard with the windage tray in the between the low level sensor hole and the bottom of the oil pan.

If it happened to me I would just be so annoyed that I would drop the pan and get it.
