Default So I decided to do some paint work

First I pained my silver ZR1's gunmetal. I just used duplicolor graphite wheel paint.

Before

After

Then I got sick of my chipped to hell front bumper. I had them repainted awhile ago but apparently the guy had no idea what real prep work was.

Before

Just a rough sand to see what I was working with.

rear bumper prep

Final prep on the front bumper.

End results

I put in the 1le fog light delete's that I have been holding onto for a couple years.

I also painted and put on the SS spoiler I picked up from slp for $120 shipped awhile ago.

Now I just have to paint the hood... and decide if I want to do the berger panel mod.

Just nason paint with 2 coats of clear. This was more of an experiment to see how it would come out since I knew there was no way in hell it could look worse than before .

nason is a very good budget paint... it shoots nice and consistent, i like it better than the shopline stuff..

hard to tell from the pics, but it definetly looks alot better than what you had..

have you buffed it yet?

I haven't had a chance to buff it yet and to be honest it really doesn't seem like it needs it, but I definitely plan on buffing it when I get some spare time.

Please post some details on the sanding process. I might be interested in doing this.

For the front bumper I started out with 220 on an orbital to get the big areas. I wanted to get all of the repainted paint off it since it just flaked/chipped off, then I got the areas I couldn't with the orbital with 220 by hand. I probably could have started off with rougher paper since the old paint was so thick. Then I just stepped it up to 320-400-600 by hand, all wetsanding.

I used this gun with a 1.3 tip.

Thanks for the info. Look at the pics above, there are still layers of paint showing as well as base black urathane but feathered of course. Did the new paint lay well over that to the point that it is baby but smooth (no layering) as good as off the showroom floor?

Yep it covered it but I definitely should have used sealer since it took quite a few coats. It was a good learning experience though.

It actually matches pretty damn close. You would have to be up close and looking for it to see the difference in color... it surprised the hell out of me.

So the basecoat acts as a filler to some extent to blend the layers?

I would sand it with sone 2500 or 3k paper and buff it out. Where did you do the painting ? garage?

I see you used the tarp instead of wetting the floor.

Looks good tho, how does the hood look? Id do it with the results you just got with the bumpers.

Looks great man!

Mine needs it along with the back bumper as well...

I'm looking to get into painting, what kind of gun do you use/recommend?
Would also like close up shots =)
