Default Bad day at the track.

So after all this time waiting to find out what my car runs I couldn't run it all out anyway. My luck is terrible. My first run I launched pretty good but my tranny wouldn't shift into second. I just bounced off rev limiter for a second or two then it shifted and seemed to pull good the rest of the run.

.0869---reaction
1.7171---60 ft
5.4329---330 ft
8.4890---1/8 et
81.88---1/8 mph
11.0435---1000 et
13.1685---1/4 et
107.04---1/4 mph

My second run I decided to let off a little if it slipped again and it did as expected.

1.6597---60 ft
5.3503---330 ft
8.3805---1/8 et
82.60---1/8 mph
10.9136---1000 et
13.0214---1/4 et
107.97---1/4 mph

The third run I already knew what was going to happen so my plan was to let off before the shift and get back on it after. My launch wasn't as good as the second run but this was my only good run of the night. This run I completely let off so there's still a lot more in my car.

.0980---reaction
1.7631---60 ft
5.1145---330 ft
7.9313---1/8 et
86.91---1/8 mph
10.3699---1000 et
12.4208---1/4 et
110.54---1/4 mph

Does anyone have any ideas why I'm having shift problems? Is it the tune or the tranny? I drove the car to the track and back home with no problems at all. It's about 30 miles each way.

I had that problem and the person who bought my car said he changed the fluid and it fixed it.

i just picked up a 96 T/A w/ only 32k on the clock and it did the SAME thing! i am 99% sure the former owner NEVER changed the fluid. i'm not going to do it cause i don't want fluid all over my garage/driveway so i plan to take it in to be done as soon as i can.

It could be the fluid or the tune... did you change out your rear gears? when i changed mine the first time it would bounce off the limiter only in second gear, would hit 3 times then shift everytime, at the time i had a pp3 and i adjusted the shift and raised the rev. But if you have not changed out the fliud in some time thats what i would start with. And last is the only BAD day at the track is when your car leaves on a flat bed bud,,, any othere time is a good day.......

I just got an email back from Bryan @ PCM For Less. He said what happened to me is called stall wall and only happens to obd1 LT1 cars. What happens is on a hard launch the tailhousing of the tranny flexes and the vss reads from 0 to 99 real fast and trips a code in the pcm. Once this happens you get stuck on the first/second shift and if you can make it shift it will not go past third until you shut the car off and restart it.

It's more common with the OBD1 but yes it happens to the OBD11 and I even had some LS1's do the same, If the tranny is not going out then it can be fixed in the tune..But times its the fluid, a cable adjustment, many variables that can cause this...

My mistake. I didn't read the email right. It's more common in obd1 cars. Thanks for catching that.

Thank you! I'll be happy with this setup as soon as I get a timeslip that says 11.xxx. I know there a lot more in this car. I'm waiting to find out when I can get this fixed in my tune then back to the track.

Don't feel too bad. When I had my LS1 the first time at the track I ran mid 14s all day long. It was so bad the booth kid asked what my problem was.

I'm just waiting for an email to find out when I'm getting my tune fixed then back to the track. Today I picked up a used 3" cowl hood so I had the room to put my ls1 lid setup on. I can't wait to see what my car does now. It feels a lot stronger on the street and I am still using a stock lid until I find an SLP lid used.

Quick Reply: Bad day at the track.
