Default Crank Bearings.... can they be fixed in the car??

Is there anyway to fix a set of bearings with the motor in the car. I mean Besdies if the Crank is Scratched or totally Messed up. Can it possibly be done with out pulling the motor??

In theory, yes.. But would be MUCH easier to just pull the engine.

Agreed, doing it in the car is bad juju. I think it would be LESS work to pull the engine than to try and do them with it installed.

Damn that would be VERY tough to do. It's tough enough attempting to get the oil pan off. I can just picture someone laying under a car for HOURS with drops of oil going directly in your face as you carefully try to get a new bearing onto a rod without nicking anything. Way easier to pull the motor and do it.

Well I bought the car and the guy already had the oil pan off and i just pulled the caps off and its pretty bad motor will be coming out next week. gonna need an align bore. probably ge tit honed and all new bearings, rods resized.....etc. o well atleast it wil be a good motor.

Any Suggestions on Bearings?? somebody told me to use Clevite Hardend bearings.

On a stock engine no need to go exotic with the bearings. Clevite P series or bi-metal aluminum ones will work fine. I've had good luck with King lately.

If you're having the rods resized, do yourself a favor and drop some ARP rod bolts in there first. Then you won't have to worry about spinning any rod bearings if you chose to go 6,500+.

rod bolts... throw a forged piston in it if you wanna spray it. trw's are cheap if you dont mind the 550 grams they're gonna weigh. i like probe pistons, lightweight and not too expensive. JEs are in my motor, they'll lighten the wallet a bit.

All LT1s had Mahle pistons. They were cast hypereutectic.

yea they're mahle hypereutecticrapshootmeintheass pistons. sure you can run a 150 hit on em, but miss the tune once going too rich or too or too much timing and it aint gonna be good.

je lighten the walet mor ethan a little bit..... but im a je dealer so i pay cost.... the stock pistons will take 150 with a great tune and saftys in place not to blow her up. i ran up to 200 before she started breaking up at 5000+ rpm and i still did it for 2 years. but paitents and knowlage is the best thing to have when tuning and modding a car like this
