Question What size nitrous shot so 4L60E lives?

Trying to decide what jets to get it tuned with, car has bolt ons but I can't afford to rebuild the trans until next year as I just found out this weekend I'm going to be a dad for the first time. Will a 100-125 blow it up if it's dynotuned? I have a Mallory 685 with window switch or should I get a progressive controller? Will that make it last?

How many miles on the tranny? I noticed a pattern about the 4L60's. even in stock trim, but the usual on mildly cammed cars, the life expectancy starts to raise the warning flag at app 125.000 miles. Of course any power adder that produces more torque will shorten the life of the trans.

I went through 3 4L60E's with a low 13-sec bolt on car, so I would say zero nitrous.

The 4L60E's bad rap is based more on bad builders than anything else.

I would call someone like ProBuilt Automatics for a Transgo kit and guidance on the exact setting of such and use the window switch and just hope for the best but be somewhat prepared should something go wrong and it fails.

Also, definitely run an external cooler.

+1 Definitely agree here. Been spraying 150-175 shot-single stage, through my 4L60E for the last few years.

In my experience with a QUALITY stall the "need" for more cooling is generally overstated on the forums.

Matter of fact come fall I find myself blocking the cooler to get the tranny to run warm enough because too cold and it will slip at WOT shifts.
I have a midsize external TruCool plate cooler in place of the stock external cooler.

IMO for many guys a stock external cooler and the 160stat most run for the coolant is sufficient tranny cooling.

Have to remember that with a 160 stat and reprogramming you are keeping the coolant something like 40degrees cooler, that helps cool the tranny too.
