Fuel economy
I'm getting 21-22 MPG average with my '93 A4 3.23. I have been using the car to commute 140 miles round trip daily for 2 months now. Until I get a place closer to my new job, I am stuck with this commute and using the LT1 for it (my other vehicle is a '97 K3500 with a 454 and 4.10 gears, 9 MPG highway).
What are you guys getting for highway fuel economy? Anyone find good ways to improve f-body fuel economy aside from taking it easy on the gas pedal or changing engines or gear ratios?

Is that straight highway mpg's or a mix?
I get 19-20mpg highway if I baby my car with 3.73's and ~400rwhp. Around town or with a mix of town/highway that is a whole nother story because the 4000 stall pretty much murders it.
A tune may help you out a little but nothing real significant. Weight reduction would help out a little as well.

I would rotate the tires, change air/fuel filter, new plugs, and do a good once over on everthing that could effect MPG's. Could the brakes be sticking? Do you have a PCM tune?
I think you can improve it some (24mpg) but it will never be like a 4cyl civic/accord tho. My accord (4cyl) gets 36mpg doing 70mph.

95 A4, LT1, 2200ish stall, and 3.23s, and I get about what you are looking for 20-23mpg. I drive mine 120 miles daily, though I don't get stuck in much stop and go traffic. If I could keep my foot out of it on the back roads, I'd probably get closer to 25.

I was getting 20 bone stock with 2.73's. With 4.10's I was getting 15 or less.
Once I finish my rebuild with a 4000 stall and bigger cam I'll be lucky if I get 10.

97% of my drive is highway and I have been setting cruise control at 65 (the speed limit) I have found anything much below 60 in overdrive lugs the engine, especially on hills. Maintenance is up to date (plugs, wires, fuel + air filters, new opti, new coil, tires at 35 psi).
I am about due for new front brakes (pads and rotors are worn out). Would a low drag "race" brake setup like the Strange setup provide a significant improvement and still be streetable?
I am also considering a new set of rims. Anything to look for besides lightest weight for the best fuel economy?
