Default Anyone shorten their dipstick tube?

Has anyone cut off a little bit of their stock OEM dipstick tube while it was out? Seems unnecessarily long and would aide in future removal if need be.

I cut a short portion off of the dipstick tube and the indicator to clear the stroker crank. I think I took off between 1" and 2".

I upgraded to a locking dipstick because as you guys know, earlier stock one pop out. But the new stick is shorter and I wanted to shorted the tube, but wasn't sure how to without metal shavings go down into the pan. I tried switching them by unbolting it, but it's damn near impossible even with the heads off.

How did you do it?

That's wierd, I've never had mine pop out. You have to be holding your mouth just right to get the SOB in and out. When I put the heads back on the car yesterday I completely forgot about the dipstick tube until I went to put oil in the car. PITA, took me 45min. to get it back in with the LT's. Just takes patience.

yea thats the right thing to do........me being the genious i am decided to just bend the tube inside the motor while i had it on the engine stand and then install the motor in the car........had to pull a headder off a few weeks ago and i went to pull the dipstick out.......yeaaa oops bends dont go through push fit holes.......and i cant pull the pan cause it hits the kmember and i cant lift up the motor becuase my intake will be in my windshield........oh well lesson learned right lol......

im awarding myself the dumbass of the year award for that one lol

off topic i know but i just found it kinda funny lol

I had to cut some off as well for the stroker crank. I also ran into a problem with the tube hittting one of my splayed caps. I should've clearanced the cap for the tube, but It was already assembled and too late. So i cut off a little more then I wanted to... No issues in the last couple thousand miles at least.

Years ago I did this.....next time I checked the oil, there was about 2-3in of the actual dipstick cut/broken off. Luckily, I was able to weasel out the piece that broke off through the drain hole using magnets. To this day, I'm not really sure what happened but it's been at least 7 years since and no problems have come from it....aside from having a dipstick that's 2-3in too short.

This is on a stock bottom end...
