Default How fast are you going on a non filled block?

Well I've got a pretty stout combination in my T/A. 383, th400, the car weighs 3185 with 5 gallons of gas.

My only worry is that the block is not half filled. That is literally the only better thing i could have opted for on this shortblock. To my knowledge most of the fast guys are running half fills.

Tony Shepard, Big Rick, Omahar Berry, Z8's, all running half fills?

what have you put down power wise or ET before filling. What are some of the knowledgeable opinions on when the half fill is needed?.

My block has billet splayed 4 bolt mains, callies crank, oliver billet rods, Custom JE turbo pistons, AFR 227's, sold roller turbo cam, jesel shaft mounts, etc.

How far is it safe to push a combo like mine?

Mine is half filled. I have always done this on all the combos I have had over the years.

Looks like you have some very nice parts in your setup. Why did you not fill it?

You will get some folks saying you don't need it and some saying you do so get ready.

My opinion. For higher horsepower cars it is a must. Stabilizes the lower part of the block.

I bought the combo freshly assembled on a stand from a guy who ran into financial problems and needed to unload it So i really didnt have a choice in filling it or not. If it were up to me i would have.

Are you aware of anyone who has sucessfully put down some high numbers/low ets on a non filled block. It's not gonna be a every weekend race car type deal. Its gonna be a street car that I take to the track once a month or so. It's not gonna be on Kill all the time.

I know there was a member LcVette on here who was makng 949rwhp on a 355 pt88 combo in a c4 i dont remember him being filled

Noob question, but what does it mean to "fill" the block? Add metal to fill empty space..?

fill the coolant passages up to the water pump or freeze plugs with a cement like material called Hard-Block. strengthens the bottom end and helps keep caps from walking etc

You have less area where coolant can go, streetable like daily driver would be a no-no. But you could easily take a car on a cruise and such.

Mines a half fill, does fine on the street. Needs a bigger radiator though....if you REALLY wanna street drive it. Track cars no prob.

I'm right at 650 RWHP with a Procharger, i'm unfilled with 4-bolt splayed mains, eagle forged bottom end with -31cc SRP's. I'm doing just fine without it.

Edit: And mine's strictly a street car. Hasn't seen any track time, and probably won't except for a couple of test'n'tune type runs.
